  1. 1. Meso-Mechanical Modeling of Thin Adhesive Layers

    Author : Kent Salomonsson; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; adhesive layer; meso-mechanical; FEM; RVE; SEM; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik; Technology; Teknik;

    Abstract : A thin adhesive layer is analyzed using a representative volume element (RVE). The RVE is comprised by, both continuum and interfacial finite elements. The interface elements allow for crack initiation and crack propagation. To obtain realistic results from the RVE simulation, an in situ scanning electron microscopy (SEM) study is performed. 2. 2. Meso-Mechanical Modeling and Analysis of Adhesive Layers

    Author : Kent Salomonsson; Ulf Stigh; Per Ståhle; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adhesive layer; Meso-mechanical; Representative Volume Element; Large curvatures; Interphase elements; Evolution algorithm; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik; Technology; Teknik;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with the modeling, simulation and analysis of adhesive layers. By use of an in situ scanning electron microscopy study it is found that the adhesive studied in the present thesis has a very complex structure with two different compounds, a mineral and an epoxy/thermoplastic blend. 3. 3. On computational homogenization of transient poromechanics problems

    Author : Fang Su; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; homogenization; porous media; Representative Volume Element RVE ; consolidation; FE2; multiscale modeling;

    Abstract : Many engineering materials are, in fact, microscopically heterogeneous. This is true fornatural materials, such as timber and clay, as well as manmade materials, like metal alloysand concrete. READ MORE

  4. 4. Computational Homogenization of Transient Problems - Application to Porous Media

    Author : Fang Su; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; consolidation; Representative Volume Element RVE ; homogenization; FE2;

    Abstract : This thesis is devoted to the development and analysis of a homogenization-basedcomputational strategy for simulating the transient and nonlinear coupled consolidationproblem in micro-heterogeneous porous media. A variational framework and the pertinentfinite element (FE) strategy, based on a generalized macro-homogeneity condition,are proposed for the spatial homogenization of a class of transient problems, wherebythe classical assumption of first order homogenization is adopted. 5. 5. Numerical Model Reduction and Error Control for Computational Homogenization of Transient Problems

    Author : Fredrik Ekre; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; model reduction; error estimation; computational homogenization;

    Abstract : Multiscale modeling is a class of methods useful for numerical simulation of mechanics, in particular, when the microstructure of a material is of importance. The main advantage is the ability to capture the overall response, and, at the same time, account for processes and structures on the underlying fine scales. READ MORE
