  1. 16. Near infrared and skin impedance spectroscopic in vivo measurements on human skin : development of a diagnostic tool for skin cancer

    Author : Ida Bodén; Peter Naredi; Britta Lindholm-Sethson; Paul Geladi; Bo Karlberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Combined probe head; Malignant melanoma; diagnosis; NIR; Skin impedance; PCA; PLS-DA; kirurgi; Surgery;

    Abstract : Every year approximately 2800 Swedes are diagnosed with malignant melanoma, the form of cancer that is most rapidly increasing in incidence in the Western world. The earlier we can identify and diagnose a malignant melanoma, the better is the prognosis. READ MORE

  2. 17. Brain Tumor Imaging and Treatment Effects. Imaging findings and cognitive function in glioblastoma patients

    Author : Anna Rydelius; Lund Neurologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioblastoma; Imaging finding; Quantitative volumetry; Cognitive function; Diffusion tensor imaging DTI ; Treatment effect; Radiotherapy; VMAT; Parametric response maps PRM ; Treatment responce prediction;

    Abstract : AbstractBackground: Glioblastoma is the most common malignant brain tumor. Operation with maximal resection, if feasible, otherwise biopsy followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy with temozolomide is standard therapy. The prognosis remains poor, with median overall survival being 15 months despite therapy. READ MORE

  3. 18. Three - dimensional ultrasound studies of the cervix in pregnancy

    Author : Linas Rovas; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; andrology; gynaecology; Obstetrics; Prostaglandin .; Labor induction .; Spontaneous delivery .; Pregnancy .; Cervix uteri .; Blood flow indices .; Doppler ultrasound .; Three-dimensional imaging .; sexuality; reproduction; Obstetrik; sexualitet; reproduktion; gynekologi; andrologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate cervical physiological changes by three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound during pregnancy and to investigate the ability of 3D power Doppler to predict time to spontaneous and induced delivery in prolonged pregnancy. The thesis is based on five studies: reproducibility of cervical measurements by 3D power Doppler ultrasound (study I), reference data representative normal findings of the cervix assessed by 3D ultrasound during pregnancy (studies II, III) and the ability of 3D power Doppler to predict time to spontaneous and induced delivery in prolonged pregnancy. 4. 19. On the treatment of Achilles tendon rupture. A prospective, randomised study of the results after surgical and non-surgical treatment

    Author : Michael Möller; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Achilles tendon; rupture; score; prospective; randomised controlled trial; isokinetic; muscular endurance; magnetic resonance imaging; ultrasonography;

    Abstract : Only two prospective, randomised studies have been published on the outcome after treatment for Achilles tendon rupture. The controversy regarding the optimal treatment continues. In the present study, 112 patients with acute Achilles tendon rupture were randomised and all of them were followed up for two years. READ MORE

  5. 20. Multiplexed absolute quantification of blood plasma proteins using targeted proteomics

    Author : David Kotol; Mathias Uhlén; Edfors Fredrik; Roman Zubarev; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mass spectrometry; targeted proteomics; stable isotope standards; recombinant protein standards; absolute quantification; blood plasma; multiplex analysis; plasma profiling; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Abstract : Proteins are the molecular building blocks of all living organisms. They are the functioning actors in metabolism and communication, and they give specific architecture and purpose to all tissues. Their abundance is dynamic and can be interpreted and associated to different physiological states or diseases. READ MORE
