  1. 11. Strategy games; on survival and reproduction

    Author : Helen Olofsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ekologi; Ecology; evolution of sexual reproduction; dormancy; game theory; migration; bet-hedging; Life history theory;

    Abstract : Classical evolutionary life history concerns questions such as optimal timing of maturation, life span and number of offspring. These questions have mostly been studied theoretically under the assumption that the environment is stable and without taking into account frequency and density dependence. READ MORE

  2. 12. Reproductive strategies and liming responses in forest field-layer flora

    Author : Annika Kruuse af Verchou; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; species turnover; species richness; sexual reproduction; podzol; pH; Lamiastrum galeobdolon; forest liming; demography; Cambisol; clonal plants; SRE; vegetative reproduction; VRE; Plant ecology; Växtekologi;

    Abstract : Liming increased species richness, in accordance with the species pool hypothesis, and number of plants of individual species in beech forest field-layer vegetation, by increasing establishment by seedlings and vegetative offspring. Turnover rates also increased, suggesting the explanatory value of the carousel model. READ MORE

  3. 13. Assessing environmental and contaminant stressors in a benthic amphipod

    Author : Therese Jacobson; Brita Sundelin; Tamara Galloway; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Multiple stressors; Reproduction; Temperature; Food; Parasites; Fenarimol; PFOS; TBT; Endocrine disruption; Ecdysteroids; Microsporidia; Microcosm; Crustacea; Amhipoda; Monoporeia affinis; Biology; Biologi; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Organisms in the aquatic environment encounter numerous stressors throughout their lifespan. Some of them are biotic such as food availability, predators and parasites. Others are abiotic and include shifting salinity and temperature change among others. READ MORE

  4. 14. Reproductive traits in euryhaline gobies: insights into physiology, adaptations and biological invasions

    Author : Leon Green; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sperm; Reproduction; Life-history Strategies; Local Adaptation; Fish; Invasion Biology; Salinity;

    Abstract : Organisms are adapted to reproduce in their specific environment by a range of different traits. For many animals, reproduction is tied to specific conditions, that trigger or enable the reproductive events. This thesis deals with traits associated with reproduction, their functions and interactions with the environment. READ MORE

  5. 15. Application and interpretation of biomarkers in ecotoxicology - from molecular to individual level responses

    Author : Sara Furuhagen; Elena Gorokhova; Carlos Barata; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biomarkers; oxidative stress; ORAC; reproduction; Daphnia magna; toxicity; environmental stress; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The use of biomarkers is considered a promising alternative, or complement, to traditional ecotoxicological assays. Toxic effects are often initially manifested at the molecular or biochemical level, biomarkers are therefore used as sensitive indicators of toxic exposure. READ MORE
