  1. 16. Muscle mass and physical function in ageing : the effects of physical activity and healthy diet

    Author : Peter Edholm; Fawzi Kadi; Andreas Nilsson; Paolo Caserotti; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Healthy ageing; Sarcopenia; Dynapenia; Functional capacity; Resistance training; Omega-3 fatty acids; Muscle mass; Body fat;

    Abstract : Ageing is associated with a gradual deterioration in physical function, accompanied by a decrease in muscle mass, leading to loss of independency. In this respect, physical activity and healthy diet represent key lifestyle factors with potential to delay onset of age-related physical disability. READ MORE

  2. 17. Impact of different interventions on cardiovascular risk factors

    Author : Marta Vergara; Fredrik Nyström; Carl Johan Östgren; Anna Krook; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Resistance training; Protein; Fast-food; Blueberries; Exercise; Glucose; Running; Cholesterol; Troponin T; Insulin sensitivity; Brown adipose tissue; Basal methabolic rate; Cold exposure; Quality of life; Primary health care; Diabetes mellitus type 2; MACE; Prospective studies; Risk factors; Cardiovascular diseases;

    Abstract : Obesity and related complications such as diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM) and cardiovascular events, are a growing major health problem worldwide. Achieving a negative energy balance by increasing physical activity in combination with reduced caloric intake, is the most common approach in weight reduction strategies, something that is difficult to maintain in the long term. 3. 18. Acute and early chronic responses to resistance exercise using flywheel or weights

    Author : Lena Norrbrand; Per Tesch; Ola Eiken; Per Aagaard; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electromyography; flywheel; magnetic resonance imaging; resistance exercise; Sports; Idrott;

    Abstract : Resistance exercise using weights typically offers constant external load during coupled shortening (concentric) and lengthening (eccentric) muscle actions in sets of consecutive repetitions until failure. However, the constant external load and the inherent capability of skeletal muscle to produce greater force in the eccentric compared with the concentric action, would infer that most actions are executed with incomplete motor unit involvement. 4. 19. The Effects of Aerobic Exercise on Human Skeletal Muscle Adaptations to Resistance Exercise

    Author : Tommy Lundberg; Per Tesch; Hans Hoppeler; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : concurrent training; endurance; gene expression; hypertrophy; muscle strength and power; protein phosphorylation;

    Abstract : Aerobic exercise (AE) may interfere with muscle adaptations induced by resistance exercise (RE). Three experimental campaigns were conducted to explore the influence of AE on molecular, functional and muscular adaptations to acute and chronic RE. Twenty-nine men performed unilateral knee extensor RE preceded by AE (AE+RE). READ MORE

  5. 20. Biomechanical analyses of flywheel resistance exercise : From a space- and ground-based perspective

    Author : Maria Sjöberg; Ola Eiken; Elena Gutierrez-Farewik; Hans E Berg; Patrik Sundblad; Loren FZ Chiu; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; AnyBody Modeling System; concentric; eccentric; eccentric overload; inverse dynamics; knee extensors; microgravity; musculoskeletal deconditioning; net-joint moment; AnyBody Modeling System; excentrisk; excentrisk överbelastning; invers dynamik; knäextensorer; koncentrisk; ledmoment; mikrogravitation; muskuloskeletal nedbrytning; Teknik och hälsa; Technology and Health;

    Abstract : Astronauts suffer degradation of postural muscles and weight-bearing bones during long-duration spaceflight. Resistance exercise is used as a primary countermeasure against these degradations. READ MORE
