  3. 3. Pressure driven instabilities in the reversed-field pinch : numerical and theoretical studies

    Author : Ahmed Akram Mirza; Jan Scheffel; Roberto Paccagnella; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fusion plasma; thermonuclear; Reversed-field pinch; resistive MHD; resistive g modes; thermal conduction; the boundary value theory;

    Abstract : According to classical linearized resistive magnetohydrodynamics theory, pressuredriven modes are unstable in the reversed-field pinch (RFP) due to unfavorable magnetic field line curvature. The result is based on the assumption of an adiabatic energy equation where anisotropic thermal conduction effects are ignored as compared to convection and compression. READ MORE

  4. 4. Experimental studies of tearing mode and resistive wall mode dynamics in the reversed field pinch configuration

    Author : Jenny-Ann Malmberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : Nuclear fusion; reversed field pinch; resistive wall instabilities; wall locked modes; tearing modes; resistive shell modes; field errors; Extrap T2; Extrap T2R; TPE-RX;

    Abstract : It is relatively straightforward to establish equilibrium inmagnetically confined plasmas, but the plasma is frequentlysucceptible to a variety of instabilities that are driven bythe free energy in the magnetic field or in the pressuregradient. These unstable modes exhibit effects that affect theparticle, momentum and heat confinement properties of theconfiguration. READ MORE

  5. 5. Drift waves in non-circular tokamak geometry

    Author : Johan Anderson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tokamak geometry; instabilities; drift waves; fusion plasmas;

    Abstract : One of the main concerns in fusion research is to understand the anomalously high transport in magnetically confined plasmas. In recent years, substantial progress in the understanding of transport in terms of drift waves in tokamaks has been achieved. READ MORE
