  1. 26. Derivation and application of response functions for nonlinear absorption and dichroisms

    Author : Tobias Fahleson; Patrick Norman; Daniel Crawford; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical spectroscopy; cubic response theory; damped response theory; magnetic circular dichroism; linear birefringence; two-photon absorption; TPA; resonant-inelastic x-ray scattering; RIXS; DALTON program; Teoretisk kemi och biologi; Theoretical Chemistry and Biology;

    Abstract : This thesis is titled ’Derivation and application of response functions for nonlinear absorption and dichroisms’ and was written by Tobias Fahleson at the Division of Theoretical Chemistry & Biology at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. It explores and expands upon theoretical means of quantifying a number of nonlinear spectroscopies, including two-photon absorption, resonant inelastic x-ray scattering, Jones birefringence, and magnetic circular dichroism. 2. 27. Redox Reactions in Li-ion Battery Cycling and in Cu Corrosion Studied by Soft X-ray Spectroscopy

    Author : Håkan Hollmark; Laurent Duda; Thorsten Schmitt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : The topic of this thesis is redox reactions in two technologically important contexts: firstly, in Li-ion battery electrodes during cycling, and secondly, in copper corrosion in oxygen-free ground water containing sulfide. In an attempt to expand the understanding of the charge uptake process in battery electrodes and the chemical reactions on copper surfaces upon sulfide exposure, soft X-ray spectroscopy has been used to study the electronic structure of these systems. 3. 28. In situ X-Ray Spectroscopy of Ethylene Epoxidation over Ag and studies of Li-ion batteries and Cu sulfidation

    Author : Paw Kristiansen; Laurent Duda; Thorsten Schmitt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; In situ; XAS; RIXS; heterogeneous catalysis; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on experiments applying synchrotron based X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy(XAS) and Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering (RIXS) in the soft X-ray region to energy related systems. The main work of this thesis has been to develop a reaction cell that allowed for in situ XAS and RIXS investigations of the partial epoxidation of ethylene over a Ag catalyst at 1 atm and up to 250C. Abstract : This thesis concerns studies of aqueous soft matter systems, especially surfactant micelle systems.The aim has been to study the molecular arrangement and electronic structure of the constituents of, as well as transport properties in such a system. READ MORE

  5. 30. Ion pairing and Langmuir-like adsorption at aqueous surfaces studied by core-level spectroscopy

    Author : Victor Ekholm; Olle Björneholm; Jan-Erik Rubensson; Markus Ammann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; XPS; Surface; Aqueous; Liquid jet; Langmuir;

    Abstract : Surface-bulk equilibria for solutes in aqueous solutions are studied using X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) with high surface and chemical sensitivity. In the first part, the results show a reduction of the biochemically relevant guanidinium ions’ surface propensity with the addition of disodium sulphate due to ion pairing with the strongly hydrated sulphate ion, which could have implications for protein folding.
