  1. 1. Measuring occupational dust exposure with a passive sampler

    Author : Mariam Shirdel; Ingvar Bergdahl; Britt Andersson; Håkan Wingfors; Christer Johansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dust particles; mineral; PM10; PM2.5; respirable fraction; UNC passive aerosol sampler; working environment;

    Abstract : Objectives: In a working environment it is important to measure dust exposure to evaluate possible health issues. Passive sampling could be an alternative to active sampling with pumps when measuring occupational dust exposure. One passive sampler is the University of North Carolina passive aerosol sampler (UNC sampler). READ MORE

  2. 2. The indoor environment in schools : Respiratory effects and air quality

    Author : Greta Smedje; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Allergy; asthma; cat allergen; cleaning; dust; formaldehyde; furniture; mould; schoolchildren; ventilation; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; arbets- och miljömedicin; Occupational and Environmental Medicine;

    Abstract : The main objective of this work was to investigate relationships between the schoolenvironment and asthma and asthmatic symptoms in schoolchildren. Data on symptoms werecollected through postal questionnaires answered by 1,732 pupils in 39 randomly selectedschools, and were related to data on exposures obtained through hygienic measurements in theschools. 3. 3. Occupational air pollutants and non-malignant respiratory disorders especially in miners

    Author : Ulf Hedlund; Per Gustavsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; respiratory symptoms; occupational epidemiology; mining; asthma; airway inflammation; dust; diesel exhaust; quartz; chronic bronchitis; silicosis; Occupational and Environmental Medicine; arbets- och miljömedicin;

    Abstract : Aim. To assess associations between occupational air pollution and respiratory health, especially in miners.Background. Indications of associations between occupational exposure or social economic status and respiratory health have been found in several population-based studies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Occupational exposure to fluorinated ski wax

    Author : Helena Nilsson; Jonathan W. Martin; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Perfluorinated; polyfluorinated; FIS; occupational exposure; ski wax; biotransformation; metabolism; fluorotelomer alcohol; fluorotelomer acid; aerosol; dust; UPLC MS-MS; GC MS-MS; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Per- and polyfluorinated substances (PFAS) are used in the production of ski wax to reduce the friction between the snow and the ski. In this occupational study of ski wax technicians’ exposure to PFAS and particulate aerosol we have collected whole blood (wb) (n =94), air (n =84) and aerosol (n =159) samples at World Cup events from 2007-2011. 5. 5. Exposure to brominated flame retardants in electronics recycling : air and human plasma levels

    Author : Anneli Julander; Magnus Engwall; Bert van Bavel; Myrto Petreas; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; PBDE; BTBPE; DeBDethane; Thyroid hormone; Occupational exposure; Human plasma; Air sampling; MeO-PBDE; PBDE; BTBPE; DeBDetan; Sköldkörtelhormon; Yrkesexponering; Human plasma; Luftprovtagning; MeO-PBDE; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), 1,2-bis(2,4,6-tribromophenoxy)ethane (BTBPE) and 1,2-bis(2,3,4,5,6-pentabromophenyl)ethane (DeBDethane) were analysed in air and blood samples from workers at an electronics recycling facility. The samples were collected regularly for 18 months and were analysed by isomer specific GC/MS analysis in both electron impact (EI) and negative chemical ionisation (NCI) mode. READ MORE
