  1. 11. Computational modelling of blood flow in medical assist devices

    Author : Francesco Fiusco; Lisa Prahl Wittberg; Lars Mikael Broman; Anders Dahlkild; David Ku; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; computational fluid dynamics; haemodynamics; platelet activation; thrombogenicity; haemolysis; extracorporeal membrane oxygenation; sensitivity; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is a life-saving support treat-ment in case of pulmonary and/or cardiac failure. An artificial extracorporealcircuit is used to offload the function of lungs and/or heart. READ MORE

  2. 12. Mean systemic filling pressure - from Guyton to the ICU, and back again

    Author : Per Werner Möller; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mean systemic filling pressure; venous return; right atrial pressure; positive pressure ventilation; extracorporeal membrane oxygenation;

    Abstract : Introduction: Mean systemic filling pressure (MSFP) is the equilibrated vascular pressure at zero flow. Venous return (VR) driving pressure (VRdP) is the difference between MSFP and right atrial pressure (RAP). READ MORE

  3. 13. Shells and filament in flows

    Author : Vipin Agrawal; Dhrubaditya Mitra; Supriya Krishnamurthy; Gerhard Gompper; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chaos; Elastic filaments; Shells; Exosomes; Stokes flow; Theoretical Physics; teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : The motivation to study elastic structures such as filaments and shells stemmed from its application in the construction of tall buildings, bridges etc. Interest in this field has rekindled in the past decades due to growing interest in understanding biological materials and because of possible applications in nanoscience and medicine. 4. 14. Ecohydrological water flow analysis of a Swedish landscape in a 100 year perspective

    Author : Lotta Andersson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Abstract : The study basically involves analysis in a 100 year perspective of the hydrological response on precipitation from different landscape elements in south-central Sweden, characterized by the interaction of topography, soil type, land management and canopy cover.For this purpose, a dynamic water partitioning model, based on the soil moisture balance, was developed together with a Geographical Information System (GIS)-supported method for the detection of the spatial distribution of soil wetness as an indicator of the probability to act as discharge or recharge areas respectively. 5. 15. Emergency department crowding and hospital patient flow : influential factors and evidence-Informed solutions

    Author : Ivy S Cheng; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Internationally, one of the biggest challenges in emergency departments is crowding – when demand for emergency care exceeds its capacity in resources and timeliness. Crowding is associated with increased morbidity, mortality, cost and decreased patient and health-care worker satisfaction. READ MORE
