  1. 6. Genetic markers in rheumatoid arthritis

    Author : Solbritt Rantapää Dahlqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rheumatoid arthritis; family history; genetic marker; HLA B27; HLA DR4; properdin factor B; C3 complement; -antitrypsin; haptoglobin; transferrin;

    Abstract : Genetic as well as environmental factors are believed to be of importance in the etiology of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). There are a number of previous studies of genetic markers in RA, but so far no genetic linkage and only a few associations have been found. Of the associations only one (with the HLA antigen DR4) appears to be well documented. READ MORE

  2. 7. Secretory Autoantibodies in Rheumatoid Arthritis

    Author : Karin Roos Ljungberg; Alf Kastbom; Anna Svärd; Klara Martinsson; Jonas Wetterö; Per-Johan Jakobsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rheumatoid arthritis; Secretory autoantibodies; Immunoglobulins; Anti-citrullinated protein antibodies; ACPA; Mucosal immunity;

    Abstract : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease in which autoantibodies, such as anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA), can be detected in the serum of patients. Autoantibodies may appear in the circulation years before clinical signs of joint inflammation occur, indicating that early immunological pathogenetic steps take place outside of the joints. 3. 8. Disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis : Studies in interleukin-6, tumour necrosis factor alpha, monocyte activity, acute phase markers, glucocorticoids, and disability

    Author : Nils Gunnar Arvidson; Anders Larsson; Arvi Larsen; Øystein Førre; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; acute phase markers; circadian rhythm; disability; disease activity; glucocorticoids; monocyte activation; rheumatoid arthritis; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : In the present studies, aspects of some disease activity measures in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have been investigated, including the effect of glucocorticoids on this activity. In RA, serum interleukin(IL)-6 levels were elevated and were shown to have a circadian rhythm, with peak levels in the morning, declining towards low or normal levels in the afternoon and evening. 4. 9. Rho-GTPases in Rheumatoid Arthritis

    Author : Eric Malmhäll-Bah; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rho-GTPases; rheumatoid arthritis; innate immunity; adaptive immunity; RA treatment;

    Abstract : The success of alleviating rheumatoid arthritis (RA) symptoms is complicated by both heterogeneity of the disease and lack of predictive markers to guide treatment options. Deregulated Rho-GTPases, a family of hydrolase enzymes catalyzing guanosine triphospate (GTP) to guanosine diphospate (GDP), have a detrimental role in many diseases including RA. READ MORE

  5. 10. Predictors of disease onset and progression in early rheumatoid arthritis : A clinical, laboratory and radiological study

    Author : Ewa Berglin; Solbritt Rantapää-Dahlqvist; Thomas Skogh; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; early; rheumatoid; arthritis; anti-CCP; antibodies; factors; radiological; outcome; disease; onset; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : To diagnose rheumatoid arthritis (RA) during the early stages of the disease is often difficult. The disease course shows great inter-individual variation from mild, self-limiting to very severe destruc-tive disease with extra-articular manifestations. READ MORE
