  1. 1. Ethanol Production from Lignocellulosic Materials: Potential of Continuous Cultivation, Immobilisation, and Zygomycetous Fungi

    Author : Ria Millati; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; continuous cultivation; galactose; Rhizopus; xylose; Rhizomucor; S cerevisiae; Mucor; M indicus; glucose; immobilisation; detoxification; arabinose; mannose; overliming; ethanol; dilute-acid hydrolysate;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the production of bio-ethanol, a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, from dilute-acid lignocellulosic hydrolysate in a continuous immobilised cell system and fermentation of the hydrolysate by a zygomycete organism, M. indicus. READ MORE

  2. 2. Lipase chemoselectivity - kinetics and applications

    Author : Cecilia Hedfors; Karl Hult; Mats Martinelle; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Candida antarctica lipase B; Rhizomucor miehei lipase; active site titration; kinetics; chemoselectivity; thiol; alcohol; thiol-functionalized polyesters; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract :   A chemoselective catalyst is preferred in a chemical reaction where protecting groups otherwise are needed. The two lipases Candida antarctica lipase B and Rhizomucor miehei lipase showed large chemoselectivity ratios, defined as (kcat/KM)OH / (kcat/KM)SH, in a transacylation reaction with ethyl octanoate as acyl donor and hexanol or hexanethiol as acyl acceptor (paper I). 3. 3. Biocatalysis in Organic Media: Parameters Influencing Activity, Stability and Enantioselectivity

    Author : David Costes; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi;

    Abstract : Biocatalysis in organic media offers very attractive methods to prepare fine chemicals. The biocatalyst performance regarding activity, stability and enantioselectivity will determine the viability of the bio-process. READ MORE

  4. 4. Lipase selectivity in functional polyester synthesis

    Author : Cecilia Hedfors; Karl Hult; Romas Kazlauskas; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Enzyme selectivity means that the enzyme´s preferences towards competing substrates will be different. In this thesis, the enzyme selectivity has been studied for utilization in synthesis of functionalized macromonomers. READ MORE
