6. Development of new Fluorination Methods Directed to Fluorine-18 Labelling
Abstract : This thesis deals with the development of new fluorination reactions and their application to fluorine-18 labelling. Fluorine-18 labelled compounds are employed as tracers in Positron Emission Tomography (PET), which is a powerful non-invasive imaging method in medical diagnostics. READ MORE

7. Metallacyclic Phosphine Complexes and Intramolecular Csp3-H Bond Activation -Synthesis, Characterisation and Catalytic Application
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis deals with metallacyclic late transition metal complexes, obtained by intramolecular Csp3-H activation, and the application of such compounds in catalysis. The new hemilabile P,O phosphines N-methyl-N-propionyl-2-(diphenylphosphino)benzylamine (DPPAM), o-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid ethyl ester (DPPES), o-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid methyl ether (DPPET) and ±-1-(2- diphenylphosphino)phenylethyl propionate (±-DPPMES) and the symmetrical diphosphorus donor ligands cis-1,3-bis[(diphenylphosphino)methyl]-cyclohexane (DPCY), cis-1,3-bis[(di-tertbutylphosphino)methyl]cyclohexane (DTBCY) and cis-1,3-bis[(di-isopropylphosphino)methyl]cyclohexane (DIPCY) have been synthesised, allowing the preparation of a range of new metallacyclic rhodium(III), iridium(III) and palladium(II) complexes. 8. On the Environmental Relevance of Platinum Group Elements
Abstract : It has recently been demonstrated that platinum group elements (PGE) are released from automobile catalysts into the environment, raising concern over ecological and human health risks. However, there is still a lack of knowledge regarding the dispersion and transformation of PGE in the environment and it is therefore difficult to assess potential risks. READ MORE

9. Development of catalysts for natural gas-fired gas turbine combustors
Abstract : Due to continuously stricter regulations regarding emissions from power generation processes, further development of existing gas turbine combustors is essential. A promising alternative to conventional flame combustion in gas turbines is catalytic combustion, which can result in ultralow emission levels of NOx, CO and unburned hydrocarbons. READ MORE

10. Flexibility – a tool for chirality control in asymmetric catalysis
Abstract : This thesis deals with the design and synthesis of ligands for asymmetric catalysis: palladium catalyzed allylic alkylations, and rho-dium and iridium catalyzed hydrogenations of olefins. Chirally flexible phosphepine ligands based on biphenyl were synthesized and their properties were studied. READ MORE
