  1. 11. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia : Studies from genetics to epidemiology with focus on the impact of different treatments

    Author : Mattias Mattsson; Richard Rosenquist; Clemens Wendtner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Chronic lymphocytic leukemia; genetics; epidemiology; Klinisk genetik; Clinical Genetics; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Abstract : The progress in our understanding of the biology and pathophysiology of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), as well as the development of new treatments, necessitates additional research on; (i) the impact of different therapies within subgroups of CLL patients, (ii) solid epidemiological data on the prevalence of CLL and on comorbidities within the CLL population, and (iii) new means of prognostication, as the value of traditional prognostic markers is uncertain when applied to new treatments.In paper I we studied the efficacy of chemo(immuno)therapy in stereotyped subsets #1 and #2. 2. 12. Stereotyped B Cell Receptors in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia : Implications for Antigen Selection in Leukemogenesis

    Author : Fiona Murray; Richard Rosenquist Brandell; Kostas Stamatopoulos; Gunilla Enblad; Gerard Tobin; Manlio Ferrarini; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chronic lymphocytic leukaemia; immunoglobulin genes; somatic hypermutation; stereotyped B cell receptors; antigen selection; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Biased immunoglobulin heavy variable (IGHV) gene usage and distinctive B-cell receptor (BCR) features have been reported in chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), which may reflect clonal selection by antigens during disease development. Furthermore, the IGHV gene mutation status distinguishes two clinical entities of CLL, where patients with unmutated IGHV genes have an inferior prognosis compared to those with mutated IGHV genes. Abstract : Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a heterogeneous malignancy displaying varying clinical outcome, where molecular markers today can divide patients into prognostic subgroups. Despite the introduction of new agents for treatment, remissions are usually not sustained in CLL and resistance towards treatment can partly be explained by aberrant apoptosis. READ MORE

  4. 14. Characterizing the spectrum of somatic alterations in canine and human cancers

    Author : Sharadha Sakthikumar; Kerstin Lindblad-Toh; Richard Rosenquist Brandell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dog; osteosarcoma; hemangiosarcoma; glioblastoma; non-coding; whole-exome; whole-genome; sequencing; bioinformatics; comparative genetics.;

    Abstract : Cancers arise as a result of deleterious somatic alterations accumulating in the genome during the process of cell division. These alterations arise either via exposure to mutagens or due to errors occurring during DNA replication. READ MORE

  5. 15. RNA-based Prognostic Markers in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

    Author : Marie Sevov; Richard Rosenquist; Mahmoud Mansouri; Denis Alexander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chronic lymphocytic leukemia; prognostic markers; RNA-based markers; LPL; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; Haematology; Hematologi; Medical Science; Medicinsk vetenskap;

    Abstract : Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is a heterogeneous disease where a significant proportion of patients will develop an aggressive disease. Today, the mutational status of the immunoglobulin heavy variable (IGHV) genes is one of the strongest prognostic markers in CLL, where unmutated IGHV genes correlate with poor outcome. READ MORE
