  1. 1. Regulation of Breathing under Different Pulmonary Conditions

    Author : Esther Rieger-Fackeldey; Gunnar Sedin; Anders Jonzon; Richard Sindelar; Andreas Schulze; Richard Martin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Control of breathing; Pulmonary Stretch Receptor; Phrenic Nerve Activity; Respiratory Distress Syndrome; Surfactant; Partial Liquid Ventilation; Assisted Ventilation; Pediatrik; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin;

    Abstract : The breathing pattern of preterm infants is immature and is associated with a variety of reflexes. In a patient on the ventilator these reflexes interfere with spontaneous breathing. A better understanding of the immature control of breathing could lead to further improvements in ventilatory techniques. READ MORE

  2. 2. Breathing Pattern and Lung Mechanics during Assisted Ventilation Response of Slowly Adapting Pulmonary Stretch Receptors and Effects on Phrenic Nerve Activity in Cats with Normal and Surfactant Depleted Lungs

    Author : Richard Sindelar; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics and gynaecology; slowly adapting pulmonary stretch receptor; phrenic nerve activity; assisted ventilation; surfactant; breathing pattern; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; Obstetrics and women s diseases; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Abstract : Different modes of assisted ventilation were investigated in cats before and after lung lavage and after instillation of surfactant. The activity of single units of slowly adapting pulmonary stretch receptors (PSRs) in the vagal nerve and the integrated phrenic nerve activity were recorded. READ MORE

  3. 3. Persistent ductus arteriosus in extremely preterm infants

    Author : Karl Wilhelm Olsson; Richard Sindelar; Anders Jonzon; Anders Larsson; Sture Andersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Echocardiography; Erythropoietin. Extremely preterm infants; Maximal ductal flow velocity; Patent ductus arteriosus; Persistent ductus arteriosus.; Pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Abstract : Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is common in infants born .... READ MORE

  4. 4. Neutrophil Chemotaxis and Respiratory Burst in Term and Preterm Newborn Infants

    Author : Maria Stålhammar; Richard Sindelar; Jens Schollin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : innate immunity; neutrophil; term newborn infants; preterm newborn infants; chemotaxis; respiratory burst; reactive oxygen species; cell surface receptor; IL-8; bacterial N-formyl peptide;

    Abstract : Neutrophil activation is the most important initial immune defense against invading microbes in newborn infants. The reduced neutrophil migration and uncontrolled regulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production observed in neonates, could result in a diminished infectious response or in tissue damage. 5. 5. Optimizing mechanical ventilation in extremely preterm infants

    Author : Linda Wallström; Richard Sindelar; Anders Jonzon; Raffaele Dellaca'; Heikki Lukkarinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mechanical ventilation; extremely preterm infant; forced oscillation technique; volume targeted ventilation; proportional assist ventilation; phrenic nerve activity; electrical activity of the diaphragm; Pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Abstract : Extremely low gestational age newborns (ELGANs) i.e. infants born before 28 weeks of gestational age (GA), require respiratory support during their hospital stay, and a majority needs mechanical ventilation (MV) at some time point. READ MORE
