  1. 1. Plants as Sources of Natural and Effective Acaricides : Against Ixodes ricinus  (Acari: Ixodidae)

    Author : Fawzeia Elmhalli; Giulio Grandi; Richard Wall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Acaricidal; Ixodes ricinus; Libyan plants; essential oils; Plant-derived acaricides.; Biology with specialization in Systematics; Biologi med inriktning mot systematik;

    Abstract : Ticks and tick-borne diseases are major health hazards worldwide, with increasing numbers of cases of Lyme disease and tick-borne encephalitis reported yearly. Meanwhile, concerns about the environmental impact and safety of chemical acaricides are driving research into alternative control methods, such as plant-based acaricides. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tearing mode dynamics in the presence of resonant magnetic perturbations

    Author : Richard Fridström; Per Brunsell; Marco Cecconello; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tearing mode; plasma; fusion; reversed-field pinch; RFP; magnetic; confinement; resonant; perturbation; magnetohydrodynamics; MHD; EXTRAP T2R; Madison Symmetic Torus; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Magnetically confined fusion (MCF) plasmas are typically subject to several unstable modes. The growth of one mode can limit the plasma energy confinement and might cause a termination of the plasma. Externally applied resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) are used to control and to mitigate some of the unstable modes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fluid mechanics of fibre suspensions related to papermaking

    Author : Richard Holm; Gustav Amberg; R. Krekes; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Applied mechanics; applied fluid mechanics; fibre suspensions; roll-forming; sedimentation; shear flow; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with fluid dynamic mechanisms related to papermaking, specif- ically: the initial dewatering mechanisms during roll-forming and fibre motion in sedimentation and in shear flow. Pressure and wire position measurements have been conducted in a model resembling the forming zone and the measured pressure distributions are shown to have more complex patterns than the simple model p / T/R (where T is the wire tension and R is the roll radius). 4. 4. Diastolic heart function in hypertension-induced left ventricular hypertrophy

    Author : Richard Müller-Brunotte; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Hypertension; left ventricular hypertrophy; diastolic function; myocardial fibrosis; angiotensin II; echocardiography;

    Abstract : Hypertensive left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy is an independent strong risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. An abnormal diastolic relaxation in the absence of systolic impairment is often seen in patients with hypertension, whether LV hypertrophy is present or not. READ MORE

  5. 5. Resonant magnetic perturbation effect on the tearing mode dynamics : Novel measurements and modeling of magnetic fluctuation induced momentum transport in the reversed-field pinch

    Author : Richard Fridström; Per Brunsell; Lorenzo Frassinetti; Tommaso Bolzonella; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RFP; reversed-field pinch; tokamak; tearing mode; RMP; fusion; plasma; resonant magnetic perturbation; stochastic; magnetic; field; viscosity; mode; locking; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The tearing mode (TM) is a resistive instability that can arise in magnetically confined plasmas. The TM can be driven unstable by the gradient of the plasma current. When the mode grows it destroys the magnetic field symmetry and reconnects the magnetic field in the form of a so-called magnetic island. READ MORE
