  1. 1. Hip Revision Surgery : Identification of Genetic Markers and Evaluation of Novel Treatment Strategies

    Author : Anders Brüggemann; Nils Hailer; Hans Mallmin; Karl Michaëlsson; Olle Nilsson; Per Wretenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is, despite its overall good outcome, for some patients followed by hip revision surgery. This seems in parts to be because of genetic susceptibility to revision surgery. The most common reason for revision surgery is aseptic loosening followed by periprosthetic joint infection and dislocation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Form and Finish of Implants in Uncemented Hip Arthroplasty : Effects of Different Shapes and Surface Treatments on Implant Stability

    Author : Stergios Lazarinis; Nils P. Hailer; Lars Weidenhielm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Form; Finish; Total hip arthroplasty; Swedish Hip Arthroplasty Register; Hydroxyapatite; RSA; DXA; BMD; Stability.; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Abstract : The design of an uncemented hip arthroplasty implant affects its long-term survival. Characteristics such as the form and the finish of the implant are crucial in order to achieve the best possible conditions for long-term implant survival. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hip revisions with impacted morselized allograft bone and cement. Patient outcome, prosthetic fixation and risks

    Author : Ewald Ornstein; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiostereometry; NHP; patient outcome; cement; allograft; morselized; impacted; bone transplantation; hip; Arthroplasty; revision; complications; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Abstract : 144 consecutive hip revisions performed with morselized allograft bone and cement were followed up to 5 years after surgery. In 49 hips patient outcome was evaluated with the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) questionnaire and Charnley hip scores in 47 hips prosthetic fixation was evaluated with radiostereometry (RSA)and in all 144 hips risks and complications were recorded using a prspective protocol. 4. 4. International Outcomes of Total Hip Arthroplasty: Influence of Patient, Implant, and Surgical factors on Total Hip Arthroplasty Survivorship in Sweden, the US, and Australia

    Author : Elizabeth W. Paxton; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Total Hip Arthroplasty; International outcomes; Variation in clinical practices; Risk of hip arthroplasty revision; meta-analysis;

    Abstract : Abstract Background Hip osteoarthritis (OA) is debilitating disease resulting in pain, stiffness, and reduced physical function. Although total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a successful treatment for OA, some THAs require revision surgery due to infection, dislocation, aseptic loosening, fracture and other reasons. READ MORE

  5. 5. Arthroplasty for Femoral Neck Fracture. Results of a nationwide implementation

    Author : Olof Leonardsson; Ortopedi - klinisk och molekylär osteoporosforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hip fracture; femoral neck fracture; total hip arthroplasty; hemiarthroplasty; long-term results; demography; patient-reported outcome; health-related quality of life; pain; satisfaction;

    Abstract : Hip fractures are devastating for the individual and a substantial economic burden for society. The treatment for displaced femoral neck fracture is a choice between internal fixation, total hip arthroplasty and hemiarthroplasty. READ MORE
