  1. 1. Life Cycle Costing in Road Planning and Management : A Case Study on Collision-free Roads

    Author : Jonas Wennström; Håkan Sundquist; Tommy Edeskär; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; collision-free road; design; infrastructure; investment; life cycle costing; life cycle cost analysis; maintenance; management; operation; planning; road; sustainability;

    Abstract : Construction of infrastructure does not only mean large capital investments but also future costs to operate and maintain these assets. Decision making in planning and design of roads will impact the need of future operation and maintenance activities. READ MORE

  2. 2. Vehicle-Pavement Interaction

    Author : Parisa Khavassefat; Björn Birgisson; Denis Jelagin; David Cebon; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Finite element; Viscoelasticity; Moving load; Dynamic axle loads; Road roughness; Flexible pavement; Stochastic;

    Abstract : Several aspects of vehicle-pavement interaction have been studied and discussed in this thesis. Initially the pavement response is studied through a quasi-static and a dynamic computationally efficient framework under moving traffic loads. READ MORE

    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Performance; Deformation; Model not math ; Rutting wheel ; Viscoelasticity; Elasticity; Axle load; Flexible pavement; Laboratory not an organization ; Test; Thesis; Heavy vehicle simulator; Wheel tracking test; Road: Pavement design; Road: Pavement design; Flexible Pavement; Pavement Performance Models; Multilayer Elastic Theory; Linear Viscoelasticity; Rutting; Accelerated Pavement Testing; Heavy Vehicle Simulator; Transportvetenskap; Transport Science; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract : Mechanistic-Empirical  (M-E)  pavement  design  procedures  are  composed  of  a  reliable  response model to estimate the state of stress in the pavement and distress models in order to predict the different types of pavement distresses due to the prevailing traffic and environmental conditions. One of the main objectives of this study was to develop a response model based on multilayer elastic  theory   (MLET)  with  improved  computational  performance  by   optimizing  the   time consuming parts of the MLET processes. 5. 5. Surface Wave Testing of Pavements

    Author : Nils Rydén; Teknisk geologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; geographical and geological engineering; Hydrogeologi; teknisk geologi; teknisk geografi; Hydrogeology; inversion; guided waves; road; pavement; Surface waves; non-destructive testing;

    Abstract : A novel approach for surface wave testing of pavements is presented. It is a non-destructive testing (NDT) technique that can be used to obtain the thickness and stiffness properties of the different layers in a pavement. READ MORE
