  1. 1. Evaluation of Road Equipment with Emphasis on Condition Assessment

    Author : Sven-Olof Lundkvist; Ulf Isacsson; Rolf Magnusson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Road equipment; Condition assessment; State-of-the-art; Mobile measurement; Road marking; Road sign; Post delineator; Traffic light; Street lighting; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis deals primarily with condition assessment of road equipment. The road equipment concept is defined by five main groups, road lighting, fences and barriers, vertical signs, horizontal signs and traffic signals, respectively. READ MORE

  2. 2. Traffic and Road Sign Recognition

    Author : Hasan Fleyeh; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : Traffic signs; color segmentation; recognition;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a system to recognise and classify road and traffic signs for the purpose of developing an inventory of them which could assist the highway engineers’ tasks of updating and maintaining them. It uses images taken by a camera from a moving vehicle. READ MORE

  3. 3. Effects of Safety Measures for Pedestrians and Cyclists at Crossing Facilities on Arterial Roads

    Author : Mohsen Towliat; Institutionen för teknik och samhälle; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Transport technology; arterial roads; interaction points; Keywords: traffic safety; pedestrian and cyclist safety; conflict study; behavioural study; experimental site; control site; physical measure; evaluation design; variable message sign; pedestrian and cycle crossing; speed measurement.; 30 50 road environment; Transportteknik; Road transport technology; Vägtransportteknik;

    Abstract : The principal aims of this thesis are to define suitable measures for safer pedestrian and cycle crossings on arterial roads, to implement these measures on a large scale and to acquire an insight into their effects on road users' safety, experiences, mobility and the environment, by creating a 30 km/h milieu at the above crossings. Two characteristically different types of measures, physical measures and variable message signs, based on three principles, lower speed, no priority and improved and relevant information, are tested within the framework of this project. 4. 4. Analysis of Retroreflection and other Properties of Road Signs

    Author : Roxan Saleh; Hasan Fleyeh; Darko Babić; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Road traffic signs; retroreflective sheeting material; night-time visibility; supervised machine learning; principal component analysis; prediction; linear regression;

    Abstract : Road traffic signs provide regulatory, warning, guidance, and other important information to road users to prevent hazards and road accidents. Therefore, the traffic signs must be detectable, legible, and visible both in day and nighttime to fulfill their purpose. The nighttime visibility is critical to safe driving on the roads at night. 5. 5. The Road to Maturity - Lineage Commitment in early Hematopoiesis

    Author : Charlotta Böiers; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The road to maturity – how do hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) differentiate into mature blood cells? The pathways of lineage commitment during normal hematopoiesis are of great significance in order to understand the underlying events that lead to leukemia, and to the design of proper treatments for prevention and remission of the disease. The route of hematopoiesis can be thought of as a hierarchical tree, with the rare HSCs at the top, transitioning down along the pathways as different progenitors. READ MORE
