  1. 1. The monetary value of urban form: Examining the relationship between accessibilities and attractiveness in Oslo

    Author : Axel Heyman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; urban economics; monetary value; accessibility; hedonic price model; urban form; attractiveness; urban design; urban planning;

    Abstract : Today and for the foreseeable future we experience a global urbanisation, which requires development of buildings, roads, and plots, also called urban form. Most often it is urban planning and design that determine changes in urban form, and it should be valuable with knowledge of its monetary value. READ MORE

    Abstract : This dissertation has two aims: (1) To characterize and abandon the humanocentric archaeology that relies upon quasi-objects and to develop the polyagentive archaeology that relies upon actualizations of the virtual. (2) To exemplify the latter approach by studying how causeways (sakbeob) in the Maya area relate to temporality and materialtiy at, and around, the two neighbouring sites of Ichmul and Yo'okop in the Cochuah region of southeast Yucatan and west-central Quintana Roo in Mexico. 3. 3. Forest edge development : management and design of forest edges in infrastructure and urban environments

    Author : Björn Wiström; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates design guidelines and management systems for the development of stationary forest edges with a graded profile in infrastructure and urban environments. The spatial restriction for the edge to move forward caused by human land use counteracts the natural dynamics and development patterns of graded forest edges. READ MORE

  4. 4. Management with the People : An Enabling Approach to Neighbourhood Road Infrastructure Management in Kampala City

    Author : Ian Senkatuka; Örjan Svane; Barnabas Nawangwe; Wilbard Kombe; KTH; []

    Abstract : Rapid urbanization occurring in many developing countries coupled with the constraints they are facing, has affected road infrastructure service delivery by public authorities charged with managing them. In Kampala City’s mixed income neighbourhood areas that have a disparity between neighbourhood community members, inadequate neighbourhood road management by Kampala City Council who are charged with managing these roads has led to neighbourhood roads that are in a poor state of disrepair, and do not meet many of the needs of their users. 5. 5. Automated Gravel Road Condition Assessment : A Case Study of Assessing Loose Gravel using Audio Data

    Author : Nausheen Saeed; Moudud Alam; Roger G. Nyberg; Diala Jomaa; Mirka Kans; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gravel roads; road maintenance; convolutional neural network CNN ; SVM; decision trees; ensemble bagged trees; GoogLeNet; ResNet50; ResNet18; sound analysis;

    Abstract : Gravel roads connect sparse populations and provide highways for agriculture and the transport of forest goods. Gravel roads are an economical choice where traffic volume is low. In Sweden, 21% of all public roads are state-owned gravel roads, covering over 20,200 km. READ MORE
