  1. 1. Robust Water Balance Modeling with Uncertain Discharge and Precipitation Data : Computational Geometry as a New Tool

    Author : José-Luis Guerrero; Sven Halldin; Stefan Uhlenbrook; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alpha shape; Convex hull; Depth function; Discharge; Hydrological models; Honduras; Model calibration; Parameter-value estimation; Precipitation; Rating curve; Robust; Robustness; Uncertainty estimation; Water resources.; Alfaform; avbördningskurva; djupfunktion; Honduras; hydrologiska modeller; konvext hölje; modellkalibrering; nederbörd; osäkerhetsskattning; parametervärdesskattning; robust; robusthet; vattenföring; vattenresurser; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Abstract : Models are important tools for understanding the hydrological processes that govern water transport in the landscape and for prediction at times and places where no observations are available. The degree of trust placed on models, however, should not exceed the quality of the data they are fed with. READ MORE

  2. 2. Environmentally Friendly Construction Processes Under Uncertainty : Assessment, Optimisation and Robust Decision-Making

    Author : Kailun Feng; Weizhuo Lu; Thomas Olofsson; Geoffrey Qiping Shen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Construction processes; environmental impacts; uncertain factors; decision-making; Byggproduktion och teknik; Construction Management and Building Technology;

    Abstract : The construction processes of building and civil infrastructure are broadly recognised as large contributors to the environmental degradation, which cause environmental impacts directly and indirectly by massive energy use, intensive greenhouse emissions, and significant resources consumption. The report from Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) and the Swedish Construction Federation (Byggföretagen) shows that the total carbon dioxide equivalents emitted per year from construction processes are the same size as emissions from all of the cars in Sweden, and more than that is generated by all lorries and busses. 3. 3. Robust methods for control structure selection in paper making processes

    Author : Miguel Castano Arranz; Fredrik Sandin; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Reglerteknik; Control Engineering;

    Abstract : Process industries have to operate in a very competitive and globalized environment, requiring efficient and sustainable production processes. As a result, production targets need to be translated into control objectives which are usually formulated as performance specifications of the process, i.e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Robust Design Experimentation and Dispersion Effects

    Author : Martin Arvidsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; estimation procedure; design of experiments; generalized linear models; event matrices; variance component; location effects; split-plot experiments; robust design; identification procedure; dispersion effects;

    Abstract : One of the most common methods in robust design methodology is design of experiments. This method makes it possible to identify settings of design factors that make products and production processes robust with respect to noise factors. READ MORE

  5. 5. Probabilistic Sequence Models with Speech and Language Applications

    Author : Gustav Eje Henter; W. Bastiaan Kleijn; Arne Leijon; Gernot Kubin; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Time series; acoustic modelling; speech synthesis; stochastic processes; causal-state splitting reconstruction; robust causal states; pattern discovery; Markov models; HMMs; nonparametric models; Gaussian processes; Gaussian process dynamical models; nonlinear Kalman filters; information theory; minimum entropy rate simplification; kernel density estimation; time-series bootstrap;

    Abstract : Series data, sequences of measured values, are ubiquitous. Whenever observations are made along a path in space or time, a data sequence results. To comprehend nature and shape it to our will, or to make informed decisions based on what we know, we need methods to make sense of such data. READ MORE
