6. Effect of Uncertainty of Rock Properties on Radionuclide Transport by Groundwater : Implications for Performance Assessments of the Repository of Spent Nuclear Fuel in Heterogeneous Bedrock
Abstract : The overall objective of the current study is to develop a quantitative understanding of the effects of spatial variability in physical and geochemical properties of crystalline rock on the migration of radionuclides along a single fracture in bedrock. A stochastic model was developed to describe the transport of solutes in fractured rock. READ MORE

7. Numerical modeling of fluid flow and solute transport in rock fractures
Abstract : This study focuses on numerical modeling of fluid flow and solute transport in rough-walled rock fractures and fracture-matrix systems, with the main aim to investigate the impacts of fracture surface roughness on flow and transport processes in rock fractures. Both 2D and 3D fracture models were built from laser-scanned surface tomography of a real granite rock sample, to consider realistic features of surface tomography and potential asperity contacts. 8. Retardation of Tracers in Crystalline Rock Sorption and Matrix Diffusion of Alkali Metal and Alkaline Earth Metal Tracers in Laboratory and Field Experiments
Abstract : The safety of geological repositories for radioactive or environmentally hazardous waste is dependent on several engineered and natural barriers. One of the natural barriers is the surrounding bedrock, in which water-conducting rock fractures may act as transport pathways in the event of a leakage from the engineered barriers. READ MORE

9. Solute transport in fractured rocks : Analysis of analytical solutions and determination of transport parameters
Abstract : In order to facilitate the assessment of the safety and function of deep geological repositories for radioactive waste, several models have been developed to describe water flow and transport of solutes in fractured crystalline rock. The rock around the repository is described and modelled as a network of water-bearing fractures. READ MORE

10. Diffusive properties of granitic rock as measured by in-situ electrical methods
Abstract : Diffusion into the rock matrix has been identified as one of the most important retention mechanisms for dissolved contaminants in fractured crystalline rock. In this thesis the diffusive properties of granitic rock, described by the formation factor, have been investigated by electrical methods. READ MORE
