  1. 16. Evaluation of biomedical microwave sensors : Microwave sensors as muscle quality discriminators in laboratory and pilot clinical trial settings

    Author : Viktor Mattsson; Robin Augustine; Mauricio Perez; Roger Karlsson; Ayca Özcelikkale; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microwave sensors; Sarcopenia; Muscle quality assessment; Biomedical applications; Tissue dielectric properties; Data-driven modelling; Clinical trials; EM Simulations; Phantom experiments; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektronik; Engineering Science with specialization in Electronics;

    Abstract : In this thesis the primary focus is on the evaluation of biomedical microwave sensor to be used in the muscle analyzer system. Lower muscle quality is one indicator that a patient can have sarcopenia. Therefore the muscle analyzer system can be a tool used in screening for sarcopenia. READ MORE

  2. 17. Ribosomal proteins L5, L15 and elongation factor 2, three vital components of the translation machinery : Functional features of RPL5, RPL15 and EF2 from Saccharomyces cerevisiae studied in vivo

    Author : Hossein Moradi; Roger Karlsson; Odd Nygård; Anders Liljas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ribosome; Ribosomal protein; Elongation factor; Translation; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Protein synthesis is an essential, energy consuming and tightly regulated process in all living cells. A central core of the cellular protein-factory is a macromolecule called ribosome. Ribosomes are composed of ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) and proteins (RPs). Additional components such as elongation factors (EFs) also contribute to this process. READ MORE

  3. 18. Profilins : The Control of the Microfilament and Microtubule systems

    Author : Michaela Nejedla; Roger Karlsson; Klemens Rottner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Profilin; Actin; Microtubules; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Abstract : The microtubule and actin filament systems are important for many cellular processes such as intracellular organelle trafficking, cell adhesion, migration and mitosis. The two filament systems are closely connected, operate in parallel and are essential for proper cell function. READ MORE

  4. 19. Improving the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) : a study using Chlamydia trachomatis as a model infection

    Author : Daniel Novak; Roger Karlsson; Berit Andersen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Public health; STI; Prevention; Chlamydia; Postal screening; cost effective; condom; Internet; self-selective screening; Folkhälsomedicin; Public health medicine research areas; Folkhälsomedicinska forskningsområden; Family Medicine; allmänmedicin;

    Abstract : Despite the current preventive strategies sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are rising. This thesis presents a model with the aim of improving the prevention of STIs. Chlamydia being the most common STI in Sweden serves as a model infection. The presented model is based on five performed studies. READ MORE

  5. 20. Profilin : From the Cell Edge into the Nucleus

    Author : Sara Sadi; Roger Karlsson; Maria Vartiainen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; profilin; actin; microfilament system; nucleus; SRF; MRTF; MAL; transcription; microtubules; Cell Biology; cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Internal and external signaling dependent changes in cell behavior are directly linked to force-generating remodeling of the actin microfilament system which is juxtaposed to the inside of the plasma membrane. This dynamic filament system is involved in many processes in the cytoplasm and the nucleus of eukaryotic cells. READ MORE
