1. After Asylums and Orphanages
Abstract : In this dissertation, I investigate the effect of partisan politics on the types of care policies that replaced asylums and orphanages between 1950 and 2015. Combining insights from the historical-sociological literature on party formation and theories of welfare politics, I formulate a theory of the partisan politics of care and apply it to two uniquely old care policy areas. 2. Material Properties of Bulk Hydrophobic Concrete in a Nordic Environment
Abstract : Concrete in its unaltered form allows the mass transfer of fluids into and out of its microstructure. These fluids can contain detrimental solutes which change the chemistry of the cement paste and/or the corrosion properties of the reinforcement bars, most noticeably hydrogen carbonates (HCO3-), oxygen (O2) and chloride ions (Cl-). 3. Fabrication and Characterization of ZnO Nanorods Based Intrinsic White Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs)
Abstract : ZnO material based hetero-junctions are a potential candidate for the design andrealization of intrinsic white light emitting devices (WLEDs) due to several advantages overthe nitride based material system. During the last few years the lack of a reliable andreproducible p-type doping in ZnO material with sufficiently high conductivity and carrierconcentration has initiated an alternative approach to grow n-ZnO nanorods (NRs) on other ptypeinorganic and organic substrates. 4. Dosimetry in brachytherapy : application of the Monte Carlo method to single source dosimetry and use of correlated sampling for accelerated dose calculations
Abstract : Three issues related to brachytherapy dosimetry are addressed in this thesis. (1) The prospect of using Compton scattering to measure energy spectra from a high dose-rate (HDR) 192Ir source is discussed and a Compton spectrometer evaluated. READ MORE

5. Tinkering with Interactive Materials : Studies, Concepts and Prototypes
Abstract : The concept of tinkering is a central practice within research in the field of Human Computer Interaction, dealing with new interactive forms and technologies. In this thesis, tinkering is discussed not only as a practice for interaction design in general, but as an attitude that calls for a deeper reflection over research practices, knowledge generation and the recent movements in the direction of materials and materiality within the field.
