  2. 2. Preclinical Development of New Alkylating Oligopeptides for Cancer Therapy

    Author : Joachim Gullbo; Rolf Larsson; Peter Nygren; Staffan Eriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; pharmacology; oncology; chemistry; Melphalan derivatives; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning;

    Abstract : Oligopeptides can be used to carry cytotoxic agents in cancer chemotherapy, using tumour-associated proteins as the molecular target for selectivity. During the seventies and eighties Peptichemio, a cocktail of six alkylating oligopeptides carrying m-L-sarcolysin, was investigated in a wide variety of human malignancies. READ MORE

  3. 3. New preclinical strategies for characterization and development of anticancer drugs

    Author : Henning Karlsson; Peter Nygren; Rolf Larsson; Mattias Belting; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; colorectal cancer; spheroids; green fluorescent protein; VLX50; VLX60; VLX600; nitazoxanide; radiation; radiosensitizer; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : Increased understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer development has shifted drug discovery towards target driven drug development the last decades, but the development of effective cancer drugs has been hampered by the lack of predictive preclinical models. 3-D cultures, considered to more accurately reflect solid tumors in vivo, have been proposed as one way to increase the predictability of clinical efficacy in cancer drug discovery and development. 4. 4. Cellular Pharmacology of the Novel Antitumoural Cyanoguanidine CHS 828

    Author : Henrik Lövborg; Rolf Larsson; Peter Nygren; Klas Wiman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; CHS 828; Cyanoguanidines; Oncology; Pharmacology; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning;

    Abstract : The antitumoural cyanoguanidine CHS 828 has shown promising activity in a number of preclinical and clinical studies. However, the mechanisms underlying the cell death induced by CHS 828 has not been clarified. This thesis describes in vitro studies of the cellular pharmacology of CHS 828. READ MORE

  5. 5. New Methods to Screen for Cancer Drugs and to Evaluate their Mechanism of Action

    Author : Linda Rickardson; Rolf Larsson; Peter Nygren; Henrik Lövborg; Kjell Grankvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmacology; Cancer drugs; Screening; Gene expression; Farmakologi;

    Abstract : Cancer is a common disease and due to problems with resistance against cancer drugs and the limited benefit from chemotherapy in many diagnoses, there is a need to develop new cancer drugs. In this thesis new methods to screen for cancer drugs and to evaluate their mechanism of action are discussed. READ MORE
