  1. 1. Property-controlling Enzymes at the Membrane Interface

    Author : Changrong Ge; Åke Wieslander; Marcelo E. Guerin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; monotopic membrane protein; lipid-protein interaction; membrane curvature; glycosyltransferase; Rossmann fold; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Monotopic proteins represent a specialized group of membrane proteins in that they are engaged in biochemical events taking place at the membrane interface. In particular, the monotopic lipid-synthesizing enzymes are able to synthesize amphiphilic lipid products by catalyzing two biochemically distinct molecules (substrates) at the membrane interface. 2. 2. Formyl-coenzyme : a transferase, structure and enzymatic mechanism

    Author : Stefano Ricagno; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : X-ray crystallography; oxalate degradation; Oxalobacter; CoA transferase; interlocked dimer; anhydride.;

    Abstract : Background: Formyl-CoA transferase (Frc) is the first enzyme in a two enzyme pathway responsible for oxalate degradation in Oxalobacter formigenes. This bacterium is a constitutive part of human intestinal flora. Its role as an oxalate scavenger is very important, reports have shown a strong connection between the disappearance of 0. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ribosomal RNA Modification Enzymes : Structural and functional studies of two methyltransferases for 23S rRNA modification in Escherichia coli

    Author : Avinash S. Punekar; Maria Selmer; Martino Bolognesi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Escherichia coli; ribosome biogenesis; ribosome assembly; ribosomal RNA; peptidyltransferase center; domain V; post-transcriptional modification; methyltransferases; S-adenosyl-methionine; RlmM; Cm2498; RlmJ; m6A2030; X-ray crystallography; substrate recognition; substrate specificity; catalytic mechanism; evolution; Biology with specialization in Structural Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot strukturbiologi; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Escherichia coli ribosomal RNA (rRNA) is post-transcriptionally modified by site-specific enzymes. The role of most modifications is not known and little is known about how these enzymes recognize their target substrates. READ MORE

  4. 4. Structural aspects of binding and transport proteins : By Barnali Neel Chaudhuri

    Author : Barnali Neel Chaudhuri; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Binding and transport proteins are essential for the transport of nutrients, vitamins, hormones, pheromones, etc. to their target destinations. Lipid-binding proteins typically contain an internal cavity where the hydrophobic/amphipathic ligands bind. Transport proteins with binding clefts for water-soluble sugars have different architectures. READ MORE

  5. 5. Bioinformatic methods in protein characterization

    Author : Yvonne Kallberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Bioinformatic methods in protein characterization;

    Abstract : Bioinformatics is an emerging interdisciplinary research field in which mathematics. computer science and biology meet. In this thesis. bioinformatic methods for analysis of functional and structural properties among proteins will be presented. READ MORE
