  1. 1. Going Round in Circles : From Sigma Models to Vertex Algebras and Back

    Author : Joel Ekstrand; Maxim Zabzine; Anton Alekseev; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chiral de Rham complex; Conformal field theory; Poisson vertex algebra; Sigma model; String theory; Vertex algebra; Theoretical Physics; Teoretisk fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we investigate sigma models and algebraic structures emerging from a Hamiltonian description of their dynamics, both in a classical and in a quantum setup. More specifically, we derive the phase space structures together with the Hamiltonians for the bosonic two-dimensional non-linear sigma model, and also for the N=1 and N=2 supersymmetric models. 2. 2. Round goby invasion of the Baltic Sea : the role of phenotypic variation

    Author : Magnus Thorlacius; Tomas Brodin; Göran Englund; Jost Borcherding; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Round goby Neogobius melanostomus ; behaviour; animal personality; dispersal; species invasions; colonisation; spread; sociability; activity; boldness; aggression; cortisol coping-styles; biology; biologi;

    Abstract : Biological invasions are a major threat to biodiversity world wide with annual economic costs up to 1.4 trillion dollars. The round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) is a particularly fierce invader that threatens ecological function of the Baltic Sea. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Round Window Membrane - Gateway to the Cochlea : A Morphological and Electrophysiological study

    Author : Leif Nordang; Sten Hellström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; round window membrane; pseudomonas exotoxin; auditory brainstem response; hearing loss; endolymphatic sac; inner ear immunology; glutamate; nitric oxide inhibitor; glucocorticoid.; Otorhinolaryngologi; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Abstract : Topical treatment of several inner ear diseases through the round window membrane (RWM) might be feasible in the near future. Bacteria toxins, ototoxic drugs and noise trauma seem to harm the inner ear by a common pathway which involves, excessive outflow of the afferent neurotransmitter glutamate and formation of nitric oxide (NO), which can severely damage cells/nerve endings and lead to cell death. 4. 4. Round goby Neogobius melanostomus in the Baltic Sea – Invasion Biology in practice

    Author : Gustaf Almqvist; Magnus Appelberg; Sture (biträdande) Hansson; Johanna Mattila; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Round goby; Neogobius melanostomus; Apollonia melanostoma; non-indigenous fish; life history characteristics; predation; competition; Gulf of Gdańsk; Baltic Sea.; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi; marin- och brackvattensekologi; Marine and Brackish Water Ecology;

    Abstract : Human mediated transfer of non-indigenous species is considered to be a major threat to global biodiversity. The Ponto-Caspian round goby (Neogobius melanostomus), which has established populations in various regions in Eurasia and North-America, was first observed in Gulf of Gdańsk, Baltic Sea, in 1990. 5. 5. Year-round production of forest seedlings under LED lamps : Biological and energetic implications of indoor cultivation

    Author : Marco Hernandez Velasco; Uwe Zimmermann; Anders Mattsson; Frank Fiedler; Johanna Riikonen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Picea abies; Pinus sylvestris; year-round cultivation; forest seedlings; LED lamps; light quality; light quantity; daily light integral; adaptive lighting control; greenhouse integrated photovoltaics; agrivoltaics; seedling growth performance; short-day treatments; cold hardiness; light shock stress; Engineering Science; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : Year-round cultivation of forest seedlings under light emitting diodes (LED) is a technology receiving increased attention from nurseries in the boreal forest regions. In these areas, the climate is characterized by strong seasonal fluctuations, resulting in short vegetation periods with narrow time windows for seedling transplanting and outdoor growth. READ MORE
