1. Post-Ischemic Housing Conditions Influence On Gene Transcription And Translation After Permanent Focal Brain Ischemia In Rats
Abstract : Enriched environment (EE) housing significantly ameliorates neurological deficits induced by cortical brain ischemia without changing infarction size, suggesting that EE-related functional benefits are associated with neuronal plasticity events in the remaining tissue. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), nerve growth factor-induced gene A (NGFI-A) and corticosteroid receptors (mineralocorticoid receptor, MR; glucocorticoid receptor, GR) have been demonstrated to be involved in brain plasticity. 2. Performance of MCrAlX coatings : Oxidation, Hot corrosion and Interdiffusion
Abstract : MCrAlY coatings (M=Ni and/or Co) are widely used for the protection of superalloy components against oxidation and hot corrosion in the hot sections of gas turbines. The drive for coating systems to bestow adequate oxidation and corrosion resistance upon the components becomes urgent as an inevitable result of the necessary improvement in engine combustion efficiency and service lifetime. 3. Oxidation and Corrosion of New MCrAlX Coatings : Modelling and Experiments
Abstract : MCrAlY coatings (“M” for Ni and/or Co) are widely used for the protection of superalloy components operated at high temperatures such as in the hot sections of gas turbines. The exposure to high temperature can cause coating degradation due to oxidation or hot corrosion at the coating surface. READ MORE

4. Finding fitness : empirical and theoretical explorations of inferring fitness effects from population-level SNP data
Abstract : The distribution of fitness effects (DFE) describes the likelihood that a new mutation has a specific effect on the fitness of an individual in a given population. The shape of the DFE is a result of several factors such as population size, mating system and selective environment, and can in turn influence the evolutionary potential of a species. READ MORE

5. The effect of microstructural features, defects and surface quality on the fatigue performance in Al-Si-Mg Cast alloys
Abstract : Global warming is driving industry to manufacture lighter components to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Promising candidates for achieving this are aluminium-silicon (Al-Si) cast alloys, which offer a high weight-to-strength ratio, excellent corrosion resistance, and good castability. READ MORE
