  2. 2. Immunotoxicology in Marine Invertebrates - Effects of Manganese on Immune Response

    Author : Carolina A. M. Oweson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Invertebrates; Immune system; Haemocytes; Manganese Mn ; Immunotoxicology; Crustacea; Mollusca; Echinodermata;

    Abstract : Manganese, Mn, is an abundant element in nature, particularly in soft bottom sediments of the oceans and in bedrock. The metal is predominantly bound to the sediment in the colloid state, MnO2. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hidden Creatures – systematics of the Euphorinae (Hymenoptera)

    Author : Julia Stigenberg; Fredrik Ronquist; Johannes Bergsten; Andrew Austin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Parasitic wasps; Braconidae; Euphorinae; systematics; phylogeny; molecular taxonomy; cryptic species; evolution; host preferences; identification keys; Systematic Zoology; zoologisk systematik och evolutionsforskning;

    Abstract : Parasitic wasps constitute one of the last remaining frontiers in the charting of animal diversity. The Braconidae is the second most species-rich family of parasitic wasps; the world fauna has been estimated at 40 000 species and the Swedish fauna is believed to include a little more than 2 000 species, 1 200 of which are currently documented. 4. 4. Preparation and Characterization of Sputter Deposited Spectrally Selective Solar Absorbers

    Author : Kristina Gelin; Ewa Wäckelgård; Arne Roos; Björn Karlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Engineering physics; spectrally selective solar absorber; thermal emittance; solar absorptance; sputter deposition; infrared reflectance; Teknisk fysik; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : The optical efficiency of a commercially available sputter deposited spectrally selective solar absorber was improved. The main purposes were to decrease the thermal emittance, increase the solar absorbtance of the absorber and to protect the substrate from degradation due to environmental influence. READ MORE

  5. 5. Predator-induced phenotypic plasticity in the marine mussel Mytilus edulis

    Author : Olof Reimer; Christer Brönmark; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systems Ecology; systemekologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis I investigated whether the risk of predation can induce development of defensive traits in the blue mussel Mytilus edulis, a common species of the temperate seashores. I performed a series of field and laboratory experiments in which I exposed blue mussels to waterborne scents from its main predators, the starfish Asterias rubens, and the shore crab Carcinus maenas.
