11. On Catalytic Mechanisms for Rational Enzyme Design Strategies
Abstract : Enzymes enable life by promoting chemical reactions that govern the metabolism of all living organisms. As green catalysts, they have been extensively used in industry. However, to reach their full potential, engineering is often required, which can benefit from a detailed understanding of the underlying reaction mechanism. READ MORE

12. On Electrified Fluid Power Systems in Mobile Machinery
Abstract : High power density in combination with flexible power distribution possibilities and extreme robustness are reasons why fluid power has been the preferred technology in mobile machinery, such as excavators and cranes, since the mid-20th century. In principle, the machines have been powered by a combustion engine which powers a pump, with the output from the pump being distributed to different functions via valves. READ MORE

13. Endogenous hormones in the etiology of ovarian and endometrial cancers
Abstract : The main purpose of this thesis was to examine the relationship of pre-diagnostic circulating levels of sex-steroids (androgens and estrogens), sex hormone binding globuline (SHBG), insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), IGF binding proteins (BP) and C-peptide (as a marker of pancreatic insulin secretion) with risk of ovarian and endometrial cancer. Additionally, the interrelationships of body mass index (BMI), sex-steroids, IGF-I and IGFBP-3 were examined. READ MORE

14. Indirect effects of unemployment and low earnings : Crime and children's school performance
Abstract : This thesis consists of three self-contained essays that consider indirect effects of unemployment and low earnings on crime and children’s school performance. The first essay, Crime, unemployment and labor market programs in turbulent times (joint with Jonas Agell), investigates the effect of unemployment and participation in labor market programs, in general and among youth, on Swedish crime rates using a new panel data set for Swedish municipalities for the period 1996-2000. 15. Effects of size-dependent predation and competition on population and community dynamics
Abstract : Most animals grow substantially during their lifetime and change in competitive ability, predatory capacity and their susceptibility to predation as they grow. This thesis addresses the implications of this on regulation and dynamics within populations as well as between population interactions. READ MORE
