  1. 1. Mean Wind and Turbulence Conditions in the Boundary Layer above Forests

    Author : Johan Arnqvist; Hans Bergström; Anna Rutgersson; Stefan Söderberg; Søren Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wind power; Forest; Turbulence; Waves; Spectra; Wind model; Atmospheric stability; Vindkraft; Skog; Turbulens; Vågor; Spektra; Modell; Atmosfärisk stabilitet;

    Abstract : As wind turbines have grown, new installation areas become possible. Placing wind turbines in forested landscapes introduce uncertainties to the wind resource estimation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Total knee arthroplasty : aspects on improved fixation in the younger patient

    Author : Anders Henricson; Kjell G Nilsson; Tore Dalén; Sören Toksvig-Larsen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Surgery; Total knee arthroplasty; total knee replacement; mobile bearing; trabecular metal; hydroxy-apatite coating; Kirurgi; Orthopaedics; ortopedi;

    Abstract : The results of total knee arthroplasty are inferior in younger patients. The challenge today is therefore to develop designs and concepts that will last at least 25 years. This thesis has evaluated the fixation to bone of modern designs of knee prostheses uring RSA analysis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Influence of External Factors on the Turbulence Structure in the Atmospheric Boundary Layer

    Author : Cecilia Johansson; Søren Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Meteorology; Meteorologi; Meteorology; Meteorologi; Meteorology; meteorologi;

    Abstract : The theory used in today’s weather- and climate models to describe processes near the earth’s surface, i.e. transport of heat, moisture and momentum between the ground and the atmosphere, is based on the idea that only local factors are important, such as temperature and wind speed near the ground. 4. 4. Fluxes of Sensible and Latent Heat and Carbon Dioxide in the Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer

    Author : Erik Sahlée; Ann-Sofi Smedman; Anna Rutgersson; Sören Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Meteorology; Sensible heat flux; Latent heat flux; Carbon dioxide; Turbulent exchange; Global heat fluxes; Marine boundary layer; Air-sea interaction; Meteorologi;

    Abstract : Oceans cover about 70% of the earth’s surface. They are the largest source of the atmospheric water vapour and act as enormous heat reservoirs. Thus in order to predict the future weather and climate it is of great importance to understand the processes governing the exchange of water vapour and heat between the ocean and atmosphere. 5. 5. Mesoscale Processes over the Baltic Sea

    Author : Nina Svensson; Erik Sahlée; Hans Bergström; Anna Rutgersson; Søren Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Boundary layer; Baltic Sea; stable conditions; low-level jet; sea breeze; boundary layer rolls; mesoscale effects; WRF; LIDAR;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to study mesoscale processes above the Baltic Sea, which is a small, semi-enclosed sea where land-sea interaction may have a large impact on the offshore conditions. It is only the last tens of years that offshore research has become more popular, and one reason for this is the increasing offshore wind energy, which poses the need for accurate estimates of wind speed and turbulence conditions in the marine environment.
