6. Structural enzymology of the biosynthesis of polyketide antibiotics
Abstract : Anthracyclines are an important group of aromatic antibiotics that exhibit antitumour activity, which makes them useful in treatment of various cancers. They are synthesised in the polyketide biosynthetic pathway as secondary metabolites by different Streptomyces species. READ MORE

7. Malnutrition in patients with chronic renal failure
Abstract : Protein-energy malnutrition is common in patients with chronic renal failure (CRF) and may contribute to a poor clinical outcome. However, the role of nutrition in this regard has not been clearly defined. READ MORE

8. Structure-function relationships of hormone-sensitive lipase
Abstract : The primary role of hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), an 84 kDa enzyme of 768 amino acids (in the rat protein), is to hydrolyse stored triacylglycerols in adipocytes of white adipose tissue. Catecholamines and insulin regulate lipolysis through cellular signalling. READ MORE

9. Characterization of neuropeptide, monoamine, and amino acid release in the basal ganglia of the rat : neuronal dependence and reciprocal interactions
Abstract : Functional interactions in the basal ganglia of rats were characterized with in vivomicrodialysis. The study was mainly focused on the dynorphin and cholecystokinin (CCK) systems. The extracellular levels of both dynorphin B and CCK were found in the pM range inthe neostriatum and substantia nigra under basal conditions. READ MORE

10. Leukotriene A4 hydrolase : exploration of the active sites and catalytic mechanisms by site-directed mutagenesis
Abstract : Leukotriene (LT) A4 is a pivotal intermediate in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes, a family of potent lipid mediators involved in a variety of inflammatory and allergic disorders. The bifunctional zinc metalloenzyme LTA4 hydrolase converts LTA4 into LTB4, one of the most potent chemotaxins known to date. READ MORE
