1. Superconductivity in the presence of magnetic steps
Abstract : This thesis investigates the distribution of superconductivity in a Type-II planar, bounded, and smooth superconductor submitted to a piecewise-constant magnetic field with a jump discontinuity along smooth curves---the magnetic edge. This discontinuous case has not been treated before in the mathematics literature, where the considered applied magnetic field is usually assumed to be smooth. READ MORE

2. A kernel function approach to exact solutions of Calogero-Moser-Sutherland type models
Abstract : This Doctoral thesis gives an introduction to the concept of kernel functionsand their signicance in the theory of special functions. Of particularinterest is the use of kernel function methods for constructing exact solutionsof Schrodinger type equations, in one spatial dimension, with interactions governedby elliptic functions. 3. Relativistic effects in Compton scattering of photons from bound electron states
Abstract : What is light? A correct answer to this question is: I don't know, but I can see some of its properties"! It is exciting to study such a complex thing and to search for models which can help us to try to understand, in a proper way, some of the most interesting behavior of light. We see the sunshine and the radiation makes us warm, undoubtly it must be some kind of energy? Interference experiments with monochromatic light show that the radiation has wave-like properties, but for example scattering experiments predict a particle nature. READ MORE

4. Digital Dispersion Equalization and Carrier Phase Estimation in 112-Gbit/s Coherent Optical Fiber Transmission System
Abstract : Coherent detection employing multilevel modulation format has become one of the most promising technologies for next generation high speed transmission system due to the high power and spectral efficiencies. With the powerful digital signal processing (DSP), coherent optical receivers allow the significant equalization of chromatic dispersion (CD), polarization mode dispersion (PMD), phase noise (PN) and nonlinear effects in the electrical domain. 5. Discrete aperiodically ordered structures in low dimensions
Abstract : This thesis deals with discrete models for one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) aperiodic systems such as quasicrystals and aperiodic superlattices. Various model systems are investigated using different forms of the tight-binding (TB) approximation. READ MORE
