  1. 1. Amperometric biosensor-based microsystems for detecting analytes of biomedical importance

    Author : Szilveszter Gaspar; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; microelectrodes; enzyme electrodes; SECM; biomedicine; µTAS; microsystems; biosensors; electrochemical detection; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : Monitoring in the biomedical field is rapidly emerging as the most important application area of miniaturized analytical devices. Diagnostics, disease monitoring, drug development, and medical research are important areas taking full advantage of the short response time, reduced sample consumption, low costs, and reduced power requirements of miniaturized analytical tools. 2. 2. Dynamics of peptide chains during co-translational translocation, membrane integration & domain folding

    Author : Rickard Hedman; Gunnar von Heijne; Daniel N. Wilson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ribosome; membrane integration; translocation; folding; arrest peptide; SecM; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : The biosynthesis of proteins occurs at the ribosomes, where amino acids are linked together into linear chains. Nascent protein chains may undergo several different processes during their synthesis. Some proteins begin to fold, while others interact with chaperones, targeting factors or processing enzymes. 3. 3. Insertion studies of model transmembrane segments into bacterial and eukaryotic membranes

    Author : Nina Schiller; Gunnar von Heijne; Paula Booth; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ribosome; membrane integration; translocation; arrest peptide; SecM; Xbp1; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Cells are encapsulated by a biological membrane in order to separate the cell interior from the surrounding environment. Different lipids and proteins compose the membrane and present a semi-permeable barrier for the diffusion of ions and molecules across the lipid bilayer. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanistic studies of localized corrosion of Al alloys by high resolution in-situ and ex-situ probing techniques

    Author : Ali Davoodi; Jinshan Pan; Gerald S. Frankel; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; localized corrosion; pitting; aluminum alloy; intermetallic particle; Volta potential; cathodic activity; micro-galvanic effect; size dependence; SKPFM; in-situ AFM; integrated AFM SECM; numerical simulation; micrometer resolution; EIS.; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : A multi-analytical approach based on in-situ and ex-situ local probing techniques was employed to investigate localized corrosion mechanisms of some aluminum alloys in chloride containing solutions, focusing on the influence of intermetallic particles (IMPs) in the alloys. In the EN AW-3003 alloy, SEM-EDS analysis revealed constituent and dispersoid IMPs. READ MORE

  5. 5. On seasonality and cointegration

    Author : Mårten Löf; Handelshögskolan i Stockholm; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis, which consists of four essays, focus on seasonal and periodic cointegration models. These models are tools to describe changing seasonality.Essay 1 "Forecasting performance of seasonal cointegration models", with Johan Lyhagen. READ MORE
