  1. 11. Meso-Mechanical Modeling of Thin Adhesive Layers

    Author : Kent Salomonsson; Högskolan i Skövde; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; adhesive layer; meso-mechanical; FEM; RVE; SEM; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik; Technology; Teknik;

    Abstract : A thin adhesive layer is analyzed using a representative volume element (RVE). The RVE is comprised by, both continuum and interfacial finite elements. The interface elements allow for crack initiation and crack propagation. To obtain realistic results from the RVE simulation, an in situ scanning electron microscopy (SEM) study is performed. 2. 12. Development and application of advanced electron microscopy techniques for materials in biological systems

    Author : Pernilla Nevsten; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; multiple-unit drug; EFTEM; EELS; cyanine dye; SSAT; cryo-TEM; virus; TEM; apoptosis; SEM; AFm; α-TCP; apatite; XEDS; TEM grid; microscopy supports;

    Abstract : Theoretically, electron microscopy and scanning probe microscopy offer information on a scale beyond the optical microscope. However, the quality of the micrograph and the obtained information is limited by the sample preparation. READ MORE

  3. 13. Enhancing the stability of probiotics: Freeze-drying and encapsulation

    Author : Shuai Bai; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; freeze-drying; lyophilization; L.ruteri; Probiotics; Lyoprotectant; Structure; Encapsulating material; Pore size; Material thickness; SEM; Tomography; Storage stability; Amorphous sugars; Glass transition temperature; DSC;

    Abstract : This research dives into the intricate world of freeze-drying, an essential process in pharmaceutical and probiotic industries, to better understand the factors affecting probiotic stability during storage. The process of freeze-drying and the composition of freeze-dried products significantly affect the stability of probiotics, yet factors such as the material’s encapsulation properties remain relatively unexplored, demanding further research. 4. 14. Atmospheric corrosion of Mg and MgAl alloys – characterization and mechanisms

    Author : Mehrdad Shahabi Navid; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; EDX; CO2; XPS; Mg and MgAl alloys; NaCl; Atmospheric corrosion; Characterization; 3D imaging; SEM; BIB; Thin film; FTIR; XRD; Pitting; Interference microscopy; FIB;

    Abstract : The atmospheric corrosion of Mg and MgAl alloys was investigated. Corrosion tests were performed in the laboratory under controlled environment. CP Mg, AM50 and AZ91 samples were exposed at 95% RH and 22°C in the presence and in the absence of 400 ppm CO2 for 24 h to 672 h. The passive film was characterized by means of XPS, FTIR, AES and XRD. READ MORE

  5. 15. Nanoscale Characterisation of Barriers to Electron Conduction in ZnO Varistor Materials

    Author : Mattias Elfwing; Peter Lagerlöf; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; ZnO varistor material; TEM; SEM; EBIC; ESEM; electron holography; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Solid State Physics; fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis is concerned with the microstructure of zinc oxide varistor materials used in surge protecting devices. This class of material has been characterised with special emphasis on the functional microstructure and the development of the microstructure during sintering. READ MORE
