  1. 21. Patient Perspectives brought to the Fore for Diabetes Care : Descriptions as well as Development and Testing of the Diabetes Questionnaire

    Author : Maria Svedbo Engström; Soffia Gudbjörnsdottir; Janeth Leksell; Katarina Eeg-Olofsson; Unn-Britt Johansson; Margareta Kristensson; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes Mellitus; Patient-Reported Outcome Measures; Qualitative Research; Surveys and Questionnaires; Cross-Sectional Studies; Hälsa och välfärd; Health and Welfare; Diabetes Mellitus; Patient-Reported Outcome Measures; Qualitative Research; Surveys and Questionnaires; Cross-Sectional Studies;

    Abstract : Aim: The overall aims were to describe perspectives of living with diabetes, to develop a patient-reported outcome and experience measure for the Swedish National Diabetes Register, and to initiate the evaluation of evidence of measurement quality for that measure. A further aim was to describe health-related quality of life and to assess its associations with glycaemic control. READ MORE

  2. 22. Tumor radiosensitivity and proliferation as parameters for optimizing radiotherapy

    Author : Mattias Hedman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Radiotherapy is a widely used method to treat malignant tumors. However, the sensitivity to the treatment varies between tumors, and local tumor control is not always achieved. The balance between treatment success and the side effects of the treatment affords important information for developing treatment schedules at patient population level. READ MORE

  3. 23. Organic micropollutants in highway stormwater and the role of a gross pollutant trap-biofilter stormwater treatment train

    Abstract : The studies which this thesis is based on assessed the stormwater quality in a highway catchment located in Sundsvall, Sweden, and examined the performance of a gross pollutant trap (GPT)-biofilter stormwater treatment train (TT) downstream of the catchment, in terms of removal efficiency, intra-event variability, and environmental risk reduction of organic micropollutants (OMPs) for the receiving water body. Assessing the occurrence and event mean concentrations (EMCs) of all OMPs in the catchment revealed that bisphenol A (BPA), octylphenol (OP), nonylphenol (NP), five carcinogenic and four non-carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and C16-C40 fractions of petroleum hydrocarbons (PHCs) all potentially pose an environmental risk to freshwater (EMCs >PNEC: predicted non-effect concentration), while alkylphenolethoxylates, six low- molecular weight PAHs, and lighter fractions of PHCs (C10-C16) do not occur at problematic levels. 4. 24. Characterization of Starch Using Flow Field-Flow Fractionation Techniques

    Author : Catalina Fuentes; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : To improve the properties and functionality of starch, it is important to understand the physicochemical and structural characteristics as raw material, after being modified to increase its characteristics and/or during changes due to the processing conditions. For this reason, the objective of the present thesis is to improve the understanding of characteristics and molecular properties like molar mass (M), root-mean-square radius (rrms) and their relation to other physicochemical properties of starch extracted from different sources. 5. 25. Long-term consequences of venous thromboembolism in women

    Author : Maria Ljungqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is the third most common cardiovascular disease with a high recurrence rate. There is a risk of chronic complications affecting health- related quality-of life (QoL). READ MORE
