  1. 1. Deviant sexual behavior, hormones and sex-chromosomal relationship : A study in the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR)

    Author : Anders Wall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; SHR; WKY; Rat; Copulatory performance; Deviant sexual behavior; Neuroendocrine mechanisms; Neonatal; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning; Neurology; neurologi;

    Abstract : The general aim of the present thesis was to gain insight into some biological factors that influencedeviant sexual performance. Two inbred strains selectively bred (hypertension) from the same Wistarrat colony were used: the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) and its normotensive progenitor theWistar Kyoto rat (WKY). 2. 2. Endothelium-derived substances and regional hemodynamics in experimental hypertension

    Author : Sven-Olof Granstam; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; nitric oxide; endothelin; hypertension; rats; SHR; hemodynamics; blood pressure; blood flow; acetylcholine; carvedilol; microsphere method; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : The spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR), a model for experimental hypertension, is considered to have similarities with essential hypertension in humans. Differences between SHR and normotensive Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY) in the vascular response to endothelial-derived substances such as nitric oxide (NO) have been intensively studied in vitro. 3. 3. Airway sensory hyperreactivity linked to capsaicin sensitivity. Definitions and epidemiology

    Author : Åke Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Capsaicin; Chemical sensitivity; Epidemiology; Odour intolerance; Sensory hyperreactivity;

    Abstract : Aims: ? To study the relationship between odour intolerance and capsaicin sensitivity and to develop a definition of airway sensory hyperreactivity (SHR). ? To study epidemiology of odour intolerance; particularly regarding airway symptoms, and to relate odour intolerance to possible risk factors. READ MORE

  4. 4. Reciprocal interactions of neuropeptide y and angiotensin II receptors with a2-adrenoceptors in the nucleus tractus solitarii of the rat

    Author : Shao-Nian Yang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Neuropeptide Y angiotensin II adrenaline noradrenaline; clonidinereceptor receptor-receptor interaction cardiovascular control immediate earlygene microinjection quantitative receptor autoradiographyimmunocytochemistry in situ hybridization ~ ;

    Abstract : Neuropeptide Y (NPY), angiotensin II (Ang II) and adrenergic transmission lines in the nucleus tractus solitarii (NTS), the major relay nucleus involved in the cardiovascular reflex, play an important role in central cardiovascular control. The present work explored reciprocal interactions of NPY and Ang II receptor subtypes with a2-adrenoceptors in the NTS of the normotensive Sprague-Dawley rat (SD), the normotensive Wistar Kyoto rat (WKY) and the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) by using a cardiovascular analysis, quantitative receptor autoradiography, immunocytochemistry and in situ hybridization techniques. 5. 5. Quality assessment in groin hernia surgery : the role of a register

    Author : Staffan Haapaniemi; Andrew Kingsnorth; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Ever since the Romans 2000 years ago the management of hernia surgery has remained a challenge to surgeons. Modern groin hernia treatment started with the Italian, Eduardo Bassini, around 1890 when he presented his method of repair. The most important innovations after Bassini are the Shouldice repair and introduction of prosthetic materials. READ MORE
