  1. 1. Genetic Aspects of Endocrine Tumorigenesis : A Hunt for the Endocrine Neoplasia Gene

    Author : Alberto Delgado Verdugo; Peyman Björklund; gunnar westin; Per Hellman; Filip Farnebo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Exome sequencing; SDHAF2; epigenetics; methylation; methylation array; Sanger sequencing; pheochromocytoma; SI-NETs; carcinoid; oncology; endocrine surgery; parathyroid; Genetics; Genetik; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Abstract : Endocrine tumors arise from endocrine glands. Most endocrine tumors are benign but malignant variants exist. Several endocrine neoplasms display loss of parts of chromosome 11 or 18, produce hormones and responds poorly to conventional chemotherapeutics. The multiple endocrine neoplasia syndromes are mainly confined to endocrine tumors. READ MORE

  2. 2. Profiling of Small Intestine Neuroendocrine Tumors

    Author : Ellinor Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; small intestine neuroendocrine tumor; somatic copy number alteration; expression profiling; APLP1; survival; targeted therapy;

    Abstract : Small intestine neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) are malignant neoplasms usually presenting with disseminated disease and symptoms of hormone overproduction. Radical surgery is curative but can only be performed for localized disease. For most patients the disease follows a progressive and fatal course. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies of epigenetic deregulation in parathyroid tumors and small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors

    Author : Elham Barazeghi; Gunnar Westin; Peter Stålberg; Per Hellman; Christofer Juhlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epigenetics; 5hmC; TET1; TET2; parathyroid tumors; SI-NET; RRBS; PTPRM;

    Abstract : Deregulation of the epigenome is associated with the initiation and progression of various types of human cancers. Here we investigated the level of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), expression and function of TET1 and TET2, and DNA methylation in parathyroid tumors and small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs). 4. 4. Melatonin and its receptors in the normal human gastrointestinal tract, pancreas and in small intestinal neuroendocrine tumours

    Author : Fanny Söderquist; Janet Cunningham; Lisa Ekselius; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Melatonin, “the hormone of darkness” is well known to regulate sleep and circadian rhythm. However, melatonin is also present in numerous peripheral tissues and the number of actions assigned to this neurohormone is growing steadily. READ MORE

  5. 5. Molecular aspects of tumor development and treatment for small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors

    Author : Omid Fotouhi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) may cause symptoms due to excess secretion of hormones and peptides. The molecular mechanisms behind development of SINETs are not well understood. Copy number alterations, especially loss of chromosome 18q, have been reported and recently p27 mutations were implicated in SI-NET tumorigenesis. READ MORE
