  1. 1. On Multistage Analysis of Transonic Compressors: From Axisymmetric Throughflow Time-Marching to Unsteady Three-Dimensional Methods

    Author : Stephane Baralon; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; shock; time-marching; deterministic; average-passage; multistage; fan; axisymmetric; 3D; unsteady; transonic; viscous; body force; stress; singularity; perturbation; throughflow; mixing-plane; modelling; finite-volume;

    Abstract : A throughflow time-marching finite-volume solver, capable of computing viscous transonic multistage compressor flows with embedded shocks, is presented. The behavior of the blade model, based on the blade mean surface flow tangency condition, was investigated for transonic flows. READ MORE

  2. 2. Accommodating differences : Power, belonging, and representation online

    Author : Karin Hansson; Love Ekenberg; Ina Wagner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; e-participation; e-democracy; online identity; artistic research; visual method; participatory method; belonging; singularity; performative states; Computer and Systems Sciences; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : How can political participatory processes online be understood in the dynamic, conflicted and highly mediated situations of contemporary society? What does democracy mean in a scenario where inequality and difference are the norms, and where people tend to abandon situations in which they and their interests are not recognized? How can we accommodate differences rather than consensus in a scenario where multiple networks of people are the starting point rather than a single community?In this thesis, these questions are explored through an iterative process in two studies that have used or resulted in three prototypes and one art exhibition. The first study is of communication practices in a global interest community, which resulted in two prototypes: Actory, a groupware that takes differences rather than equality as the starting point for a collaborative tool, and The Affect Machine, a social network where differences are used as a relational capital. 4. 4. Numerical analysis for random processes and fields and related design problems

    Author : Konrad Abramowicz; Oleg Seleznjev; Krzysztof Podgórski; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stochastic processes; random fields; approximation; numerical integration; Hermite splines; piecewise linear interpolator; local stationarity; point singularity; stratified Monte Carlo quadrature; Asian option; Monte Carlo pricing method; Lévy market models; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik; Mathematical Statistics; matematisk statistik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we study numerical analysis for random processes and fields. We investigate the behavior of the approximation accuracy for specific linear methods based on a finite number of observations. Furthermore, we propose techniques for optimizing performance of the methods for particular classes of random functions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Elastic Wave Scattering by Closed Cracks and Thin Flaws - Multiple Scattering and Resonances

    Author : Arne S. Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SH-wave; evaluation of materials; direct integral equation; singularity expansion; ultrasonic testing;

    Abstract : In this thesis we study elastic wave scattering by thin flaws and closed cracks, which finds applications in ultrasonic testing and evaluation of materials. First we consider the scattering of an SH-wave by a thin finite elastic layer between two elastic half-spaces. READ MORE
