  1. 6. The influence of Al alloy microstructure on conversion coating formation

    Author : Salil Sainis; Caterina Zanella; Ehsan Ghassemali; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aluminium alloys; cast Al-Si alloys; conversion coating treatment; cerium; localized deposition; surface pre-treatments; microstructure; SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM; aluminiumlegeringar; gjutna Al-Si legeringar; omvandlingsbeläggningar; cerium; lokaliserad deposition; ytförbehandlingar; microstruktur SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM;

    Abstract : The formation of conversion coatings based on Ce, trivalent Cr and Ti/Zr is triggered by the local pH increase at cathodic IM sites of the aluminium alloy microstructure. The pH gradient is created over the cathodic intermetallic (IM) sites of the microstructure and its intensity is influenced by their activity which depends on their chemical composition, their size, and spatial distribution. 2. 7. Relativenobility of precipitated phases in stainless steels : Evaluation with a combination of local probing techniques

    Author : Namurata Sathirachinda; Jinshan Pan; Thomas Ladwein; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Stainless steels often exhibit complex transformation and precipitation behaviour due to a high content of alloying elements. Secondary phases can be formed in the temperature range of 300-1000°C and are generally undesirable due to their detrimental effect on mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of stainless steels. 3. 8. Atmospheric corrosion of zinc-aluminum and copper-based alloys in chloride-rich environments : Microstructure, corrosion initiation, patina evolution and metal release

    Author : Xian Zhang; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Christofer Leygraf; Manuel Morcillo; KTH; []
    Keywords : atmospheric corrosion; chloride deposition; Zn-Al alloy coatings on steel microstructure; Cu sheet and Cu alloys; microstructure; corrosion initiation; corrosion product evolution; metal release; SEM; IRAS; CRM.; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Fundamental understanding of atmospheric corrosion mechanisms requires an in-depth understanding on the dynamic interaction between corrosive constituents and metal/alloy surfaces. This doctoral study comprises field and laboratory investigations that assess atmospheric corrosion and metal release processes for two different groups of alloys exposed in chloride-rich environments. 4. 9. Carbon Dioxide: The Unknown Factor in the Atmospheric Corrosion of Light Metals. A Laboratory Study

    Author : Daniel Bengtsson Blücher; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SO2; temperature; CO2; atmospheric corrosion; magnesium; NO2; aluminum alloys; NaCl; O3; Mg-Al alloys;

    Abstract : The atmospheric corrosion of Al and Mg-Al alloys was investigated using controlled air in the laboratory. The effects of CO2, temperature, NaCl, relative humidity, SO2, NO2 and O3 on corrosion rate and corrosion product composition were examined. READ MORE

  5. 10. Environment Related Surface Phenomena and their Influence on Properties of Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo : Oxidation at Elevated Temperature and Corrosion During Chemical Treatment

    Author : Birhan Sefer; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materialteknik; Engineering Materials;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis covers investigation of the surface phenomena of Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo alloys related with oxidation at elevated temperature and corrosion duringchemical treatment in hydrofluoric-nitric acid (HF/HNO3) solutions. The explored phenomenaare related to manufacturing and service conditions of aero-engine components. READ MORE
