  1. 16. Fuel Ethanol Production from Corn Stover: Optimization of Steam Pretreatment and Improvement of Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation

    Author : Karin Öhgren; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fuels and explosives technology; petrochemistry; Carbochemistry; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering; Energiforskning; corn stover; Energy research; prehydrolysis; enzymatic hydrolysis; SSF; SO2; steam pretreatment; Ethanol production; Petrokemi; bränslen; sprängämnen; pentose fermentation;

    Abstract : Fuel ethanol, produced from biomass, could well be tomorrow's replacement for gasoline. This thesis deals with the production of fuel ethanol from corn stover using an enzymatic process consisting of the following main steps: steam pretreatment of the raw material, enzymatic hydrolysis, fermentation of the sugars and ethanol refining. 3. 18. Residual and Solubility trapping during Geological CO2 storage : Numerical and Experimental studies

    Author : Maria Rasmusson; Fritjof Fagerlund; Auli Niemi; Jonathan Ennis-King; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; capillary trapping; CCS; convective flow; CO2; light transmission; SO2; well test; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Abstract : Geological storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) in deep saline aquifers mitigates atmospheric release of greenhouse gases. To estimate storage capacity and evaluate storage safety, knowledge of the trapping mechanisms that retain CO2 within geological formations, and the factors affecting these is fundamental. READ MORE

  5. 20. The role of particles on initial atmospheric corrosion of copper and zinc : lateral distribution, secondary spreading and CO2-/SO2-influence

    Author : Zhuo Yuan Chen; Christofer Leygraf; Jan-Erik Svensson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atmospheric corrosion; copper; zinc; NaCl particles; NH4 2SO4; Materials chemistry; Materialkemi;

    Abstract : The role of sodium chloride (NaCl) particles and ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4) particles on the initial atmospheric corrosion of copper and zinc was investigated under in situ and ex situ conditions using microgravimetry, FTIR spectroscopy, ion chromatography, scanning electron microscopy with x-ray microanalysis and the scanning Kelvin probe. For the first time, in situ infrared spectra were collected on a micron level during particle induced atmospheric corrosion using a recently developed experimental set-up for in situ FTIR microspectroscopy.
