  1. 1. Prolactin receptor expression and prolactin-mediated effects in adipose tissue

    University dissertation from Göteborg

    Author : Charlotte Ling; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipose tissue; prolactin receptor; SOCS; leptin; resistin; lipoprotein lipase;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of functional prolactin receptors (PRLRs) in white adipose tissue of mice and humans, and the possible functions mediated via PRLRs. In mouse white adipose tissue, three PRLR mRNA isoforms, L-, S2-, and S3-PRLR, and L-PRLR protein expression were detected. READ MORE

  2. 2. Role of Cell-cell Interactions and Palmitate on β-cells Function

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Azazul Islam Chowdhury; Peter Bergsten; Gunilla Westermark; Peter Jones; [2014]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Metabolism; PI3K; Pseudoislets; Human islets; SOCS; PIAS; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The islets of Langerhans secrets insulin in response to fluctuations of blood glucose level and efficient secretion requires extensive intra-islet communication. Secretory failure from islets is one of the hallmark in progression of type 2 diabetes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Role of SOCS proteins during mycobacterial infections

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology

    Author : Berit Carow; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2012]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the world’s most successful bacterial killer. During infection, mycobacteria reside inside host cells encapsulated within a granuloma structure in the latent, asymptomatic phase of infection. Only 10% of latently infected develop active, infectious tuberculosis months or years after the initial infection. READ MORE

  4. 4. On DFM Considerations and Assessment for Nanometer SoCs

    Abstract : The incredible density of silicon integrated circuits has brought with it unprecedented technological advances. This is made possible through innovations at each incremental technology node. READ MORE

  5. 5. Investigations of Strategies to Counteract Proinflammatory Cytokines in Experimental Type 1 Diabetes

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Andreas Börjesson; Stellan Sandler; Annika Carlsson; Jens Nielsen; [2008]
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; proinflammatory cytokines; SOCS-3; pancreatic islets; inducible nitric oxide synthase; insulin secretion; NOD mice; islet transplantation; proinsulin conversion; streptozotocin; prolactin; VETERINARY MEDICINE Medicine; VETERINÄRMEDICIN Medicin;

    Abstract : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a chronic autoimmune disease targeted against the pancreatic β-cells. Proinflammatory cytokines are considered to play a major role in the destruction of the insulin-producing β-cells. This thesis studied strategies to counteract proinflammatory cytokines in experimental T1D. READ MORE
