1. Molecular Interactions in Thin Films of Biopolymers, Colloids and Synthetic Polyelectrolytes
Abstract : The development of the layer-by-layer (LbL) technique has turned out to be an efficient way to physically modify the surface properties of different materials, for example to improve the adhesive interactions between fibers in paper. The main objective of the work described in this thesis was to obtain fundamental data concerning the adhesive properties of wood biopolymers and LbL films, including the mechanical properties of the thin films, in order to shed light on the molecular mechanisms responsible for the adhesion between these materials. 2. Modelling of the pyrolysis of large wood particles
Abstract : Wood is an interesting alternative to fossil fuels. It is CO2-neutral and widely available. However it is a difficult fuel to handle which features a low energy content. Thus technologies for wood thermal conversion need to be improved. READ MORE

3. The dynamic surface nature of calcite and its role in determining the adsorptive stability toward hydrophobizing carboxylic fatty acids
Abstract : Calcium carbonate has attracted a lot of interest over the centuries. Nowadays, mainly as mineral pigment and filler, it has a wide use in technological applications ranging from paper, construction, polymers, and environmental solutions to consumer goods. READ MORE

4. Correlation between Track Irregularities and Vehicle Dynamic Response Based on Measurements and Simulations
Abstract : Deviations from the design track geometry are called track irregularities, which are a main excitation mechanism in the track–vehicle dynamic system, and very important to monitor and maintain to have trac on a line run safely and comfortably. Especially during vehicle acceptance testing, it is important that a new vehicle behaves close to design predictions and within limit values, thus it is important to be able to describe track irregularities in a consistent way. 5. Formation and properties of polyelectrolyte multilayers on wood fibres : influence on paper strength and fibre wettability
Abstract : The work in this licentiate thesis examines the adsorption of polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEM) onto wood fibres as a new way to influence the properties of the fibre surfaces and hence the fibres. Fundamental aspects of PEM formation on wood fibres have been studied, and discussed in terms of paper strength and wood fibre wettability. READ MORE
