  1. 1. Atomistic Modelling of Materials for Clean Energy Applications : hydrogen generation, hydrogen storage, and Li-ion battery

    Author : Zhao Qian; Rajeev Ahuja; Börje Johansson; Antonio Ferreira da Silva; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Renewable energy; Materials science; Hydrogen production; Hydrogen storage; Li-ion battery; Density functional theory; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi; SRA - E-Science SeRC ; SRA - E-vetenskap SeRC ;

    Abstract : In this thesis, a number of clean-energy materials for hydrogen generation, hydrogen storage, and Li-ion battery energy storage applications have been investigated through state-of-the-art density functional theory.As an alternative fuel, hydrogen has been regarded as one of the promising clean energies with the advantage of abundance (generated through water splitting) and pollution-free emission if used in fuel cell systems. 2. 2. Thermodynamic and Kinetic Investigation of the Fe-Cr-Ni System Driven by Engineering Applications

    Author : Wei Xiong; Malin Selleby; John Ågren; Byeong-Joo Lee; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; phase transformation; magnetism; spinodal decomposition; stainless steel; low temperature CALPHAD; phase field; ab initio; atom probe tomography; calorimetry; SRA - E-vetenskap SeRC ; SRA - E-Science SeRC ; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : This work is a thermodynamic and kinetic study of the Fe-Cr-Ni system as the core of stainless steels. The Fe-Cr, Fe-Ni and Cr-Ni systems were studied intensively using both computational and experimental techniques, including CALPHAD (CALculation of PHAse Diagrams), phase field simulation, ab initio modeling, calorimetry, and atom probe tomography. Abstract : This thesis concerns the applications and analysis of the Heterogeneous Multiscale methods (HMM) for Multiscale Elliptic and Hyperbolic Partial Differential Equations. We have gathered the main contributions in two papers. READ MORE

  4. 4. Agro-Waste Derived Additives for Polylactide and Tapioca Starch

    Author : Edwin Azwar; Minna Hakkarainen; Anna Wistrand; Christian Glandfils; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Agro-industrial waste; wood flour; rice bran; polylactide; starch; biomass; degradation; SRA - E-vetenskap SeRC ; SRA - E-Science SeRC ;

    Abstract : Development of materials from renewable resources is one of the big challenges facing our world. In this thesis agro-industrial waste derivatives were developed and evaluated as additives for two common renewable polymer matrices, polylactide (PLA) and starch. Two waste products, wood flour (WF) and rice bran (RB) were evaluated in different forms. READ MORE
