  1. 6. Active Control and Reduced-Order Modeling of Transition in Shear Flows

    Author : Reza Dadfar; Dan S. Henningson; Ardeshir Hanifi; Shervin Bagheri; Vassilis Theofilis; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SRA - E-Science SeRC ; SRA - E-vetenskap SeRC ;

    Abstract : In this thesis direct numerical simulation is used to investigate the possibilityto delay the transition from laminar to turbulent in boundary layer flows.Furthermore, modal analysis is used to reveal the coherent structures in highdimensional dynamical systems arising in the flow problems. 2. 7. Numerical Investigation of Rotating and Stratified Turbulence

    Author : Enrico Deusebio; Erik Lindborg; Johan Nilsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Geostrophic turbulence; stable stratification; rotation; wall-bounded turbulence; gravity waves; atmospherical dynamics; direct numertical simulations; SRA - E-Science SeRC ; SRA - E-vetenskap SeRC ;

    Abstract : Atmospheric and oceanic flows are strongly affected by rotation and stratification. Rotation is exerted through Coriolis forces which mainly act in horizontal planes whereas stratification largely affects the motion along the vertical direction through buoyancy forces, the latters related to the vertical variation of the fluid density. Abstract : In this work, the solubility of butyl paraben in 7 pure solvents and in 5 different ethanol-water mixtures has been determined from 1 ˚C to 50 ˚C. The solubility of ethyl paraben and propyl paraben in various solvents has been determined at 10 ˚C. READ MORE

  4. 9. Spectral-element simulations of turbulent wall-bounded flows including transition and separation

    Author : Johan Malm; Dan Henningson; Philipp Schlatter; Suad Jakirlic; KTH; []
    Keywords : spectral-element method; direct numerical simulation DNS ; large-eddy simulation LES ; turbulence; transition; over-integration; three-dimensional separation; massively parallel simulations; proper orthogonal decomposition POD ; Koopman modes; vorticity stretching; coherence; SRA - E-vetenskap SeRC ; SRA - E-Science SeRC ;

    Abstract : The spectral-element method (SEM) is used to study wall-bounded turbulent flowsin moderately complex geometries. The first part of the thesis is devoted to simulations of canonical flow cases, such as temporal K-type transitionand turbulent channel flow, to investigate general resolution requirements and computational efficiency of the numerical code nek5000.
