  1. 11. Mapping the human proteome using bioinformatic methods

    Author : Linn Fagerberg; Mathias Uhlén; Alvis Brazma; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; proteome; transcriptome; bioinformatics; membrane protein prediction; subcellular localization; protein expression level; cell line; immunohistochemistry; immunofluorescence; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; SRA - Molecular Bioscience; SRA - Molekylär biovetenskap;

    Abstract : The fundamental goal of proteomics is to gain an understanding of the expression and function of the proteome on the level of individual proteins, on the level of defined cell types and on the level of the entire organism. In this thesis, the human proteome is explored using membrane protein topology prediction methods to define the human membrane proteome and by global protein expression profiling, which relies on a complex study of the location and expression levels of proteins in tissues and cells. 2. 12. Ribosome display for selection and evolution of affibody molecules

    Author : Sebastian Grimm; Per-Åke Nygren; Mike Taussig; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; affibody; ribosome display; phage display; combinatorial protein engineering; library; murine IgG1; SATB1; Ras; Raf; Genetic engineering including functional genomics; Genteknik inkl. funktionsgenomik; SRA - Molecular Bioscience; SRA - Molekylär biovetenskap;

    Abstract : Affinity proteins are invaluable tools in biotechnological and medical applications. This thesis is about combinatorial protein engineering principles for the generation of novel affinity proteins to purify mouse immunoglobulin, detect a potential cancer marker protein or inhibit a cell proliferation pathway. 3. 13. Droplet microfluidics for high throughput biological analysis

    Author : Håkan Jönsson; Helene Andersson-Svahn; Andrew Griffiths; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microfluidics; Droplet microfluidics; High throughput biology; Single cell analysis; Hydrodynamic separation; Enzyme amplification; Fluorescence polarization; Microfabrication; Bioengineering; Bioteknik; SRA - Molecular Bioscience; SRA - Molekylär biovetenskap;

    Abstract : Many areas of biological research increasingly perform large-scale analyses.  In genomics the entire gene repertoire of an organism is analyzed.  Proteomics attempts to understand the function and expression patterns of all proteins in a cell or organism. READ MORE

  4. 14. Intracellular systems for characterization and engineering of proteases and their substrates

    Author : George Kostallas; Stefan Ståhl; Patrik Samuelson; Matthew DeLisa; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; proteases; flow cytometry; GFP; CAT; protein engineering; ssrA; ClpXP; tobacco etch virus; TEV; site-specific; high-throughput; selection; proteolysis; libraries; Bioengineering; Bioteknik; SRA - Molecular Bioscience; SRA - Molekylär biovetenskap;

    Abstract : Over the years, the view on proteases as relatively non-specific protein degradation enzymes, mainly involved in food digestion and intracellular protein turnover, has shifted and they are now recognized as key regulators of many biological processes that determine the fate of a cell. Besides their biological role, proteases have emerged as important tools in various biotechnical, industrial and medical applications. READ MORE

  5. 15. Quality assessment of protein models

    Author : Arjun Ray; Erik Lindahl; Bengt Persson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SRA - Molecular Bioscience; SRA - Molekylär biovetenskap;

    Abstract : Proteins are crucial for all living organisms and they are involved in many different processes. The function of a protein is tightly coupled to its structure, yet to determine the structure experimentally is both non-trivial and expensive. READ MORE
