1. Studies of sterol 12alpha-hydroxylase (CYP8B1) : distribution and role for cholesterol homeostasis and gallstone formation
Abstract : Bile acids are essential physiological molecules which carry out multiple functions such as facilitating the absorption of dietary lipids and regulating the metabolism of cholesterol and bile acids. The formation of bile represents the major route for elimination of excess cholesterol, either by conversion of cholesterol into bile acids or excretion of intact cholesterol in mixed micelles. 2. Studies on the molecular regulation of bile acids and lipoproteins in human liver
Abstract : Elevated lipid levels in the bloodstream, in particular high levels of LDL cholesterol, are a major risk factor for the development of atherosclerosis. The liver has a central role in cholesterol metabolism and is the only organ capable of a quantitative elimination of cholesterol from the body. READ MORE

3. Studies on the regulatory role of cholic acid in cholesterol metabolism
Abstract : Cholesterol is essential for normal growth and development in both man and mouse. However, excess cholesterol can be harmful leading to diseases such as atherosclerosis and gallstones. Once formed cholesterol cannot be catabolised by the body and must therefore be converted to other compounds for excretion. READ MORE

4. Studies on cholesterol and bile acid metabolism in Chinese cholesterol gallstone patients
Abstract : Liver and intestine are important organs for the metabolism of cholesterol and bile acids in the body. Dysfunction in cholesterol and bile acid metabolism may lead to diseases such as cholesterol gallstone (GS) disease and atherosclerosis. READ MORE

5. Studies on cholesterol homeostasis by modulation of lipoproteins and bile acids
Abstract : Excess plasma cholesterol, in particular high levels of LDL cholesterol, is a major risk factor for the development of atherosclerosis. The liver has a central role in the regulation of cholesterol metabolism: i) a major part of the cholesterol present in the body is synthesized in the liver; ii) the level of plasma lipoproteins is regulated by liver uptake and secretion of these particles and iii) the liver is essential for elimination of cholesterol from the body as such or by its conversion into bile acids.
