  1. 1. Ethanol from Softwood - Process Development Based on Steam Pretreatment and SSF

    Author : Kerstin Stenberg; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; economy; infection; inhibition; recirculation; S. cerevisiae; SSF; steam pretreatment; ethanol production; process development; softwood; Carbochemistry; petrochemistry; fuels and explosives technology; Petrokemi; bränslen; sprängämnen;

    Abstract : Fuel ethanol can be produced from lignocellulosics by the enzymatic hydrolysis process, which consists of a pretreatment step prior to hydrolysis, followed by fermentation and finally refining. This thesis deals with the development of the enzymatic process using softwood as raw material. READ MORE

  2. 2. Process Development of Bioethanol Production from Wheat and Barley Residues Steam Pretreatment and SSF

    Author : Marie Linde; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Carbochemistry; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering; metabolism; Biokemi; Metabolism; Biochemistry; Barley straw; Wheat straw; DDGS; Fermentation; SSF; Enzymatic hydrolysis; H2SO4; Ethanol production; Steam pretreatment; petrochemistry; fuels and explosives technology; Petrokemi; bränslen; sprängämnen; Wood; pulp and paper technology; Pappers- och massateknik; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : Bioethanol has received increasing attention as an alternative to petrol due to the current dependency on supplies from other countries and due to the increased concentration of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. In this thesis, the development of 2nd generation production processes for bioethanol production from the lignocellulosic part of biomass is discussed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Lignocellulosic Ethanol Production Based on Steam Pretreatment and SSF: Process Development through Experiments and Simulations

    Author : Per Sassner; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Process simulation; Energy efficiency; SSF; Enzymatic hydrolysis; Lignocellulose; Steam pretreatment; Ethanol production; Process economics; Flow-sheeting;

    Abstract : Lignocellulosic materials, such as wood, waste products from the forestry industry, agricultural residues and herbaceous crops, serve as an abundant and comparatively cheap feedstock with the potential to be used for large-scale ethanol production. However, the complex structure of lignocellulosic materials, the presence of various hexose and pentose sugars in hemicellulose, and the presence of various compounds that inhibit the fermenting organism constitute physical barriers that add to the production cost and make full-scale introduction economically more risky. 4. 4. Development of Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation for Production of Ethanol from Softwood

    Author : Malek Alkasrawi; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; spruce; softwood; fermentation; cultivation; Tween-20; SSF; recirculation; Ethanol production; process streams;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the development of simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) in order to improve the economy of the softwood-to-ethanol process. The effect of process stream recirculation on ethanol production from steam-pretreated softwood based on SSF was investigated for two process cases. READ MORE

  5. 5. Fuel Ethanol Production from Corn Stover: Optimization of Steam Pretreatment and Improvement of Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation

    Author : Karin Öhgren; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; fuels and explosives technology; petrochemistry; Carbochemistry; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering; Energiforskning; corn stover; Energy research; prehydrolysis; enzymatic hydrolysis; SSF; SO2; steam pretreatment; Ethanol production; Petrokemi; bränslen; sprängämnen; pentose fermentation;

    Abstract : Fuel ethanol, produced from biomass, could well be tomorrow's replacement for gasoline. This thesis deals with the production of fuel ethanol from corn stover using an enzymatic process consisting of the following main steps: steam pretreatment of the raw material, enzymatic hydrolysis, fermentation of the sugars and ethanol refining.
