  1. 1. Investigations on the Formation of Defect Bands in Semi-Solid High Pressure Die Cast Aluminium-Silicon Alloys

    Author : Madeleine Law; Pär Jönsson; Christopher Hulme-Smith; Taishi Matsushita; Jessica Elfsberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Semi-Solid Metals; SSM; Al-Si Alloys; Defect bands; HPDC; Semisolida metaller; SSM; Al-Si-Alloys; defektband; HPDC; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Abstract : High-pressure die casting of semi-solid aluminium-silicon alloys is used in the automotive industry to manufacture components, like housings, brackets, and bars. It is commonly known that during high-pressure die casting, defect bands may be created that follow the contour of the component surface. These bands consist mainly of a eutectic phase. READ MORE

  2. 2. Rheocasting of Aluminium Alloys : Slurry Formation, Microstructure, and Properties

    Author : Mostafa Payandeh; A. E. W. Jarfors; Torbjörn Carlberg; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SSM Casting; aluminium alloy; RheoMetalTM process; microstructure; physical and mechanical properties;

    Abstract : Innovative materials with novel properties are in great demand for use in the criticalcomponents of emerging technologies, which promise to be more cost-effective and energyefficient.A controversial issue with regard to manufacturing complex industrial products isto develop advanced materials with optimised manufacturability in addition to the requiredmechanical and physical properties. 3. 3. Casting and anodising of Al alloys- Alloy design, manufacturing process and material properties

    Author : Baiwei Zhu; Caterina Zanella; Rajan Ambat; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cast aluminium; Semi-solid casting; Anodising; Gjutning av aluminium; semi-solid gjutning; anodisering; komponent; gjutlegering; kisel; järn;

    Abstract : Casting and semi-solid metal (SSM) casting are widely used to manufacture near-net-shape components of Al-Si alloys in the automotive and electronic industries. In such applications, casting components need to meet the combined requirements of good mechanical properties and corrosion and wear resistance. READ MORE

  4. 4. Semi-solid Al-7Si-Mg castings – Microstructure and mechanical properties

    Author : Jorge Santos; Anders E.W. Jarfors; Arne Dahle; Hongbiao Dong; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rheometal™ process; semi-solid casting; aluminium alloys; dissolution; grain refinement; segregation; intermetallic phases; heat treatment; mechanical properties; fatigue properties; Rheometal™ processen; semi-solid gjutgarna; aluminiumlegeringar; upplösning; kornförfining; segregering; intermetalliska faser; värmebehandling; mekaniska egenskaper; utmattningsegenskaper;

    Abstract : The use of lightweight parts by the vehicle industry produces immediate benefits on the reduction of emissions because less energy is consumed during the production, service, and recycle stages of a product life cycle. Therefore, the development of processes that allow high design freedom for topology optimisation and materials with high specific strength is a great need. READ MORE

  5. 5. Mechanical properties of semi-solid Al castings : Role of stirring

    Author : Qing Zhang; Anders E.W. Jarfors; Stefan Jonsson; Tomas Liljenfors; Arne K. Dahle; Johan Ahlström; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rheometal™ process; aluminum alloys; stirring; segregation; porosity; oxides; ductility; fatigue performance; melt quality;

    Abstract : Aluminum castings have been widely used in the automotive industry to reduce the vehicle's weight. However, the existence of casting defects significantly limits its application. The most common and detrimental defects in aluminum castings are porosity and oxides. READ MORE
