1. STAT3 in Prostate Cancer
Abstract : Prostate cancer is the second most common diagnosed cancer among men. Currently there are no reliablebiomarkers to distinguish between indolent and aggressive disease. When men progress to advanced stages of the disease treatment options are limited and resistance to treatments available today is a growing problem. READ MORE

2. Rule-Based Approaches for Large Biological Datasets Analysis : A Suite of Tools and Methods
Abstract : This thesis is about new and improved computational methods to analyze complex biological data produced by advanced biotechnologies. Such data is not only very large but it also is characterized by very high numbers of features. READ MORE

3. Regulation of IL-6-signaling and inflammatory response – Role of insulin, FOXO1 and PKCδ
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate if and how insulin antagonizes interleukin-6 (IL-6)-signaling and action using both 3T3-L1 mouse adipocytes (Paper I) and HepG2 human hepatocytes (Paper III). We also investigated the importance of PKCδ in 3T3-L1 adipocytes and mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) lacking protein kinase C-δ (PKCδ-/-) (Paper II). READ MORE

4. The molecular chaperone CCT: Functions beyond folding
Abstract : The chaperonin-containing tailless complex polypeptide 1 (CCT) is a eukaryotic ~1 MDa barrel shaped molecular chaperone, built up by eight distinct subunits and is required for the folding of the abundant cytoskeletal proteins actin and tubulin. CCT exists as an assembled oligomer, micro-complexes and as individual subunits in the cell. READ MORE

5. Galiellalactone Synthetic Studies
Abstract : In search for remedies and treatments, science has recurred to Mother Nature. This is where galiellalactone was found, a fungal metabolite isolated from Galiella rufa in 1990. Since then chemists and biologists have been studying its properties and found it to be a potential candidate against castration-resistance prostate cancer (CRPC). READ MORE
