  1. 16. Graphene: Applications in Surface Science Studies

    Author : Virginia Boix; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Graphene; Surface Science; EBID; Catalysis; undercover catalysis; XPS; APXPS; STM;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses how graphene can be a valuable asset for surface science studies. Using a combination of X- ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, and low-energy electron diffraction, we take advantage of graphene’s sensitivity to changes in its chemical environment to obtain an atomic scale understanding of different reactions occurring above and below the film. 2. 17. Learning and memory in moths - plasticity in behaviour and neurophysiology

    Author : Ruey-Jane Fan; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; proboscis extension reflex PER ; LTM; MTM; STM; memory; inter-trial-interval ITI ; inter-stimulus interval ISI ; US; CS; olfaction; Associative learning; classical conditioning; discrimination; the US pathway; Ecology; Ekologi; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi;

    Abstract : The moth, Spodoptera littoralis, was demonstrated to be a new model system for studying mechanisms underlying odour conditioning. In the experiments a restrained moth was trained to learn an association between a conditioned stimulus (CS) and an unconditioned stimulus (US). READ MORE

    Abstract : Two-dimensional layered materials, namely monolayer hexagonal boron nitride and graphene were grown by CVD on various transition metals. The physical and chemical properties of these systems were characterized systematically using synchrotron-based spectroscopic techniques, scanning tunneling microscopy and low energy electron diffraction. Abstract : Taking into account the technological demand for the controlled preparation of atomically precise graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with well-defined properties, the present thesis is focused on the investigation of the role of the underlying metal substrate in the process of building GNRs using bottom-up strategy and on the changes in the electronic structure of GNRs induced by the GNR-metal interaction. The combination of surface sensitive synchrotron-radiation-based spectroscopic techniques and scanning tunneling microscopy with in situ sample preparation allowed to trace evolution of the structural and electronic properties of the investigated systems.
