  1. 1. Effects of Safety Measures for Pedestrians and Cyclists at Crossing Facilities on Arterial Roads

    Author : Mohsen Towliat; Institutionen för teknik och samhälle; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Transport technology; arterial roads; interaction points; Keywords: traffic safety; pedestrian and cyclist safety; conflict study; behavioural study; experimental site; control site; physical measure; evaluation design; variable message sign; pedestrian and cycle crossing; speed measurement.; 30 50 road environment; Transportteknik; Road transport technology; Vägtransportteknik;

    Abstract : The principal aims of this thesis are to define suitable measures for safer pedestrian and cycle crossings on arterial roads, to implement these measures on a large scale and to acquire an insight into their effects on road users' safety, experiences, mobility and the environment, by creating a 30 km/h milieu at the above crossings. Two characteristically different types of measures, physical measures and variable message signs, based on three principles, lower speed, no priority and improved and relevant information, are tested within the framework of this project. 2. 2. Defining and applying surrogate safety measures and behavioural indicators through site-based observations

    Author : Tim de Ceunynck; Trafik och väg; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Surrogate safety measures; behavioural indicators; traffic safety; site-based observations; traffic conflicts; traffic conflict techniques; road user interactions;

    Abstract : This dissertation looks into surrogate safety measures and behavioural indicators that are collected through site-based observations. Surrogate safety measures are defined as measurements that are used to describe the relationship between two road users in a traffic event for the purpose of quantifying the crash probability and/or the potential crash severity in a meaningful way. 3. 3. Safety Culture in Sea and Aviation Transport

    Author : Åsa Ek; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; organizational climate; air traffic control; safety culture; passenger shipping; airport ground handling; Social sciences; Samhällsvetenskaper; Development psychology; Utvecklingspsykologi; Applied and experimental psychology; Tillämpad och experimentell psykologi; Technological sciences; Teknik; Säkerhetsteknik; Safety technology;

    Abstract : The research presented in this thesis investigates sea and aviation transport safety culture, with a focus on perceptions and attitudes. A safety culture reflects the attitudes, beliefs, perceptions, and values that individuals share in relation to safety. READ MORE

  4. 4. Indicators for traffic safety assessment and prediction and their application in micro-simulation modelling : a study of urban and suburban intersections

    Author : Jeffery Archer; Karl-Lennart Bång; Oliver Carsten; KTH; []
    Keywords : Social sciences; Traffic safety; proximal safety indicators; micro-simulation; safety analysis; Samhällsvetenskap; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : In order to achieve sustainable long-term transport infrastructure development, there is a growing need for fast, reliable and effective methods to evaluate and predict the impact of traffic safety measures. Recognising this need, and the need for an active traffic safety approach, this thesis focuses on traffic safety assessment and prediction based on the use of safety indicators that measure the spatial and/or temporal proximity of safety critical events. 5. 5. Safety and biological aspects of present techniques of haemodialysis

    Author : Per Jonsson; Hans Dietrich Polaschegg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : haemodialysis; safety; leakage current; central dialysis catheter; microbubbles; microemboli; air contamination; transfusion medicine; transfusionsmedicin;

    Abstract : Introduction: Haemodialysis (HD) is a treatment in which blood from the patient is lead through a tubing system into a dialysis device in a extracorporeal circuit. This circuit contains semipermeable membranes (dialyzer). Blood with uraemic toxins flows on one side, and a salt solution flows on the other side. READ MORE
